The meeting received the apologies of a number of regular members who
were attending the AGM of the Irish Guide Dogs.
The latest IOS 16 update has raised quite a few alarms in non-visual users.
Some Fb-Exchange members have updated and report no problems as yet.
However, other users have reported severe issues that make one
cautious about updating for the moment.
Martin is just back from a successful outing in Cobh where he attended
the annual meeting of the Siúil walking group. He reported on his
problem with Microsoft Word in which he finds that pressing the home
key jumps back off the current line of text and cannot be found
easily. Since the Home key is meant to jump back to the last carriage
return entered, Martin agreed that it may be that the sentence is
quite long and has wrapped around a couple of lines. That would mean
that the previous carriage return is not on the current line but back one or
two lines of text.
Joanne was having difficulty connecting her audio into Zoom with her iPhone.'
Ken came to the rescue and took her through the procedure step by step.
With the Zoom app open he asked Joanne to sign in to Zoom. This meant
going through the Sign Up procedure. Joanne chose to sign up using her Apple
Id.
She did not remember the Apple password and found that she could
complete the registration by placing her thumb on the home button.
After signing in to Zoom, Ken guided her through: more> settings >
Meetings>audio. Here she needed to turn on "Auto connect audio" and
Meetings>"WIFI or
Cellular Data". Joanne was delighted to have her connection
established at last!
Next, Joanne's user name needed to be changed.
This involved reopening "More" to access her profile. Then double
tapping on her email address.
This opens the rename dialog. The user can enter the name they wish to
show to other attendees at the Zoom meeting.
Alexa became an active member of the club, giving authoritative
definitions of connections and the use of "Airplane mode" among other useful
items.
Both Martin and Cearbhall have undertaken to find out how Airplane
Mode can be managed in flight over the next few weeks.
Dominique is unable to text messages from her Apple watch but is about
to purchase a new model and hopes that that will resolve her difficulties.
Cearbhall was surprised to receive a phone call during the meeting
even though his iPhone was set to "Do not disturb". Ken and Stuart
tested various options and found that "Do not disturb" blocked an
initial call but a repeated call immediately following the first was allowed
to come through.

Ken asked Stuart how to bring music into a recorded video. Stuart was
sure that he had used iMovie to do this but needed to research the
best method before he could give a clear explanation. He offered to
bring the result to the next meeting.
