This is very valuable information for people who qualify for the service. I
have been using it since 2012 and at no time have I been asked to show a
Medical Card as proof to qualify for the service. It is an excellent
service when it works but my own recent experience when I have put forward a
request is that I would have to wait as it was deemed that others such as
students were priority above me and that I could be accommodated at quieter
times of the year!!!

If you received an offer for a new job, you are starting a new school or
college, or just want to get to your medical appointments or even a social
event thats a bit far from your home and you need to use public transport,
the Travel Assistance Scheme might be for you.
But what is it? Dont worry, we have some information that might be helpful!
The Travel Assistance Scheme is a government-funded initiative that is
designed to help people with disabilities and mobility impairments to travel
independently throughout Dublin (since 2008) and Cork (since 2022). The
program is managed by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and is
available to eligible applicants who meet certain criteria.
The scheme provides a range of services, including door-to-door
transportation, assistance with boarding and alighting from buses and
trains, and help with navigating public transportation systems. It also
offers training and support to help participants become more confident and
independent travellers.
To be eligible for the Travel Assistance Scheme, applicants must have a
mobility impairment that makes it difficult for them to use public
transportation without assistance. This can include people with physical
disabilities, visual impairments, and cognitive disabilities. Applicants
must also be residents of the Dublin or Cork areas and must have a valid
medical card. The service is free of charge and is available to customers
aged 18 and over.
Once accepted into the program, participants can request assistance with
traveling to any destination within the programs service area. This can
include trips to work, school, medical appointments, social events, and
more. Assistance is typically provided by trained drivers and attendants who
are equipped with specialized vehicles and equipment to ensure the safety
