Dear Veronica
We would like to invite the 'Friends of Veronica Coffey & National League of
Blind Association" on an evening tour of our new exhibition "Doing their
Bit": Irish Women and the First World War. Would either Monday 23rd April or
Thursday 26 April be convenient at 6.30 pm?
Tea/Coffee/Biscuits will be served.
The exhibition Doing their Bit Irish Women and the First World War
explores the experiences of V.A.D nurses, munitions factory workers, Home
Front volunteers, separation women and those involved in the
anti-conscription movement. Using colourful panels, original photographs,
documents, and artefacts, it illustrates how the First World War accelerated
the changes that were gradually occurring under the surface of Irish
society. Personal stories such as the indomitable Kate Middleton Curtis who
set up Temple Hill Auxiliary Home for Soldiers, and Monica Roberts who ran
the Band of Helpers for Soldiers demonstrates how World War 1 directly
impacted on lives of Irish women and offered them new avenues of
opportunity. The exhibition draws mainly on the Royal Dublin Fusiliers
Association Archive held at Dublin City Library and Archive, along with
medical artefacts on loan courtesy of St John Ambulance archive.
