Hi,
Ken raised this question in the Session yesterday. I had not noticed it before
but was curious to find out what was causing these untitled attachments to
appear unexpectedly in emails.
In the case of an iPhone application that generates an email with an
attachment.
The email message window pops up showing the body text and attachment followed
by the default "Sent from my iPhone" signature text.
Everything seems perfectly ok, except when the message is received by the
recipient the signature "Send from my iPhone" has been converted into a text
attachment instead of remaining as the last line of the body.
The signature is a default feature of IOS Mail. It is managed by the
email client. The signature ("Sent from my iPhone" is the default
text. When you edit this you are amending the default file. IOS
displays the signature in the bottom of the message. When the receiving email
program gets the message, it does not know what to do with the signature file
and so displays it as an unknown attachment to the message. It is not harmful
but a bit of a nuisance when the recipient of the message finds the attachment
and cannot do anything with it.
It seems that we must live with it!
If you would like to read more into the reason why this happens, the link below
will bring you to a description of MIME and how it is used to make email
messages more versatile.
