I received the following message from Bolinda Audio in answer to some of my
questions:
Q1. Is the text to speech interface available on Android phones with or
without Talkback running?
A: The text to speech in our eBook reader is only an accessibility feature -
it is tied to VoiceOver being activated on the phone. So far the demand has
been for iOS so we haven't yet got the reader accessibility improvements on
Android yet.
Q3. Can a simple selection choice be provided so that users can use either
the digital eBook interface or the text to speech interface whether they
have VoiceOver or Talkback running or not?
A: As the text to speech eBook reader is tied to VoiceOver we do not yet
have the option of running the feature while VoiceOver is not activated.
We are constantly developing the app so we will always look for ways to
improve the user experience and make it more flexible. We will relay any
future eBook text to speech updates to you as soon as they are actioned.
So, I hope this answers some of the questions which were raised at recent
meetings.
