Mary showed Annette how to delete single and multiple messages on the
iPhone.
Mary and Albert shared experiences with Audible now that the company has
been bought over by Amazon. Mary had difficulty logging in to audible.com
and plans to switch to audible.co.uk.
Bert and Margaret brought a fistful of leaves to the table to demonstrate
the effectiveness of an app called "Snap Leaf" which was described by Pat
McCarthy at the Cork Exchange meeting last Saturday. Quite an impressive
amount of information was provided for each leaf in both Latin and English.
Bert also demonstrated an accessible app called "Chirp" that displays the
song of particular birds, names them and supplies a video of the bird in
action and a quiz to test your knowledge.
Mary introduced Dr. Melissa Jones of fighting Blindness who explained the
highlights of the forthcoming Retina conference in October.
John Chambers pointed out that Kindle is supposed to synchronise the pages
being read by a user on different Android devices. He finds that 200 pages
read on one device is being flagged as 400 pages read on another device. He
suspects that the misread might have to do with the presence of footnotes in
the book.
Bert raised the issue of solving a captia image on secured web pages. (The
captia image is used to prove that a person is operating the computer rather
than a machine). Up to recently, Firefox used Web Vissum to provide an
electronic means of solving the Captia but this is no longer available.
Bert pointed out that photographs included in WhatsApp messages go
straightaway to the Cloud and can eat up your storage allowance very quickly
with jokes and other short-term material that you might not necessarily want
to keep. He advise that it would be best to turn off photos by default and
only turn them on when needed.
