The Exchange Club suggested I post here about Make Way Day on Wednesday, please
get in touch if you would like to get involved.
Fighting Blindness is taking part in the Disability Federations Make Way Day
campaign next Wednesday, September 26. The aim of the campaign is to raise
awareness and draw attention to the challenges posed by things left on the
footpath, such as bikes chained to lampposts, wheelie bins, cars parked on
footpaths etc. The original plan was to put Make Way Stickers on obstacles but
DFI have now changed the campaign due to a problem with the stickers. They have
now asked that we hold up the stickers in front of obstacles and take photos.
It is a good solution for the sticker problem in general but unfortunately not
very visually impaired friendly unless you are taking part with a sighted
person. A group of sighted and visually impaired people will be highlighting
obstacles on the footpaths near our offices in Ely Place and that general area
tomorrow and would be delighted if any of you would like to join us. Please get

The campaign is taking place in areas all over the country. For those of you
who asked about activities in Wicklow you can link in with Laura English from

or 086 8206736. There are a few groups meeting outside McDonald's in Bray at
3pm and a photographer from the local paper will be there to capture the
stickering. They are short on numbers in Greystones but are hoping to have a
group so if you are in the area and want to take part just give Laura a call.
