At the outset the meeting discussed the GPS transport app Movit This is a
worldwide app for train and bus information and also gives information on
things like the location of bus stops. This app is available now for Ireland
and from what is reported at the Cork meeting is quite accurate for use with
bus stops, according to Cearbhall.
Michael reported that he uses the Luas VI app (VI for visually impaired not
6 as VoiceOver calls it). This app is quite useful and is very accessible.
Cearbhall reported an unusual phenomenon. His wife purchased a book by an
Irish Author called "The Ruin" which she recommended as great reading
material and he attempted to purchase the audible version from audible.com.
While the book was available from audible.com, having an Irish bank account
precluded him from purchasing it. If he had subscribed to audible.co.uk
however, he would have no problem purchasing the book. He has been in touch
with Audible over the weekend trying to sort this out.
Bert told the meeting that the audible.com app was very efficient - you can
purchase books without having to go to the website. Annual subscription is
better value for money than monthly subscription he told the meeting.
Marti wanted help with forwarding a message sent to her iPhone. Bert helped
her with this. Double tap on the message to open it. Flick to the text of
the message and flick down with one finger until you hear more. Double tap
this option and then flick right until you hear Forward button and
double-tap. You should be positioned in the To field and you can add
contacts from here. Proceed then as if you were creating a new message. You
will see the text of the received message in the body of your new message.
Eamonn had a problem with deleting a folder he had created on his PC while
installing Software Defined Radio. He needed to uninstall it and when he
tried to re-install it he got a message that there were still some files
remaining in the folder. When he tried to delete these files he was told
that he hadn't administrator access to delete them. Cearbhall told him to
press the Windows key and type in command prompt; press the application or
Shft Key and F10 key and press down arrow key to the Run as Administrator
option and press Enter.
Bob told the meeting that his android phone now supports sharing between his
phone and PC. So he can share a message sent to his phone on his PC.
Marti had a problem with her Dropbox app. She cannot see any of the files
although they are there on the app. Cearbhall said that there were reports
of problems with Dropbox in OS13. He advised deletion of the app and
re-install it again. He pointed out that data won't be lost as the data in
Dropbox is stored in the cloud.
