Hello all,
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity to participate on a new

know, has kindly offered to share her considerable experience by facilitating
this for Fighting Blindness. It runs for 8 weeks from Thursday 10th February (
10am to 12.30pm). Please note that places are limited and a commitment to
participate for the duration of the course is required. I'm including details
below and also in the attachments (MS Word and PDF). If you are interested in

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course
Using the Wisdom of your Body and Mind to face
Stress, Improve Health and General Wellbeing
Every Thursday from 10am to 12.30pm from 10/2/2022
What is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction - MBSR
MBSR, is an eight-week experiential course in the art of conscious living,
offering an invitation to embark on a journey of self-discovery, healing and
self-development. MBSR provides a range of practical approaches for
integrating Mindfulness into daily life: stepping away from living our life on
automatic pilot, in to present moment awareness of the small things we
ordinarily take for granted.
Where did MBSR come from?
The MBSR course was inspired by the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, a Professor in
Medicine, who established the first Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction clinic
at the University of Massachusetts in 1979. The success of the clinic in
helping thousands of people to cope more effectively with stress, pain and
illness, contributed to the growth of a new field of medicine known as
behavioural or integrative medicine. This emerging area of medicine recognises
that the way in which we use our mind and body has a major impact on how we
perceive and process information, our ability to recover from illness and
promote health and general wellbeing. MBSR courses are now having much success
in a wide range of contexts, health, educational and corporate settings.
What can you expect to gain from an MBSR course?
1. MBSR offers skills for coping more effectively with the
inevitable stress which we encounter in everyday life. Developing an increased
awareness of our thoughts, emotions and behaviour patterns, enables greater
choice in how we respond to, and recover from, stress.
2. MBSR helps to build emotional and mental resilience - learning
how to relate to one's self and others in a less judgmental and more
compassionate manner.
3. Scientific research has produced compelling evidence of the many
health benefits to be gained from practicing Mindfulness. Such as improvements
within the immune system, blood pressure regulation, improved sleep patterns
and greater attention control, among many other benefits.
Who can apply to join MBSR course?
This MBSR course is open to adults aged over 18 years, and is suitable for both
those who are new to Mindfulness, and those who already have experience in this
area. As an MBSR course requires considerable self-exploration, often touching
on sensitive issues, it would not be suitable for those who have recently had a
bereavement, or who are currently experiencing acute depression or addiction.
Please note:
1. The course will run over eight consecutive weeks, with one morning
session per week, from 10am to 12.30 pm. Additionally, there will be one half
day which will take place on a Sunday.
2. The course will commence on Thursday the 10th February 2022.
3. In light of the current pandemic, this MBSR course will be offered
online, via Zoom. Zoom training can be provided in advance.
4. Mindfulness is not a quick fix for finding solutions to problems.
Participants undertaking MBSR would need to be open to practicing Mindfulness
on a daily basis throughout the duration of the course. Please note also that
the course requires a commitment for the duration, it is not designed for only
periodic participation.
