Join educator and artist Emilie Giles along with programmer and
technology expert Declan Meenagh for this short workshop to learn how to
program the BBC micro:bit. The micro:bit is a small circuit board often
used to teach people how to start getting creative with technology! We will
use a screen reader (NVDA) in assisting us with this, and start to work
with the circuit board using elements like light, sound and vibration in
order to get an output from it. We will also explore making an e-textile
sensor as well.
No previous programming experience is needed â weâll be working with a
language called âPythonâ but at an introductory level. All materials and
the electronics are provided; you just need to bring a laptop with you
which has NVDA installed. The course may also work with JAWS. There is an
option to take part with an iPhone or iPad but the accessibility of this
has not been fully tested.
All kit provided in the workshop is yours to take home afterwards so that
you can carry on exploring the possibilities!
The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 5th July from 10am to 12pm in
the Fighting Blindness Offices, 3rd floor, 7 Ely Place, Dublin 2. A
