Hi,
Today we attempted to get Voiceover to pronounce áine as awn ya instead of
ane. We thought phonetic feedback under Voiceover settings should do
the trick but not so.
First off, I found that Phonetic feedback is actually the technique of
spelling characters by their phonetic names rather than there alphabetic
ones. For example áine would be Alpha acute, india, november echo.
So, that is useful to know but not what we were looking for.
Then I found the right answer:
1. Open Voiceover Settings.
2. Swipe down to Speech (its quite a few rows down) and double tap
3. Swipe down to pronunciations and double tap
4. Swipe right to Add and double tap
5. Under phrase enter the word or group of words you want to correct;
6. Swipe to Substitution and enter mis-spelling for the word or
phrase that will create the sound you want.
7. To test your effort, swipe back before phrase and you will see
that the play button which was dimmed is now active. Double tap on Play
and VoiceOver will speak the substitution for you. You can re-edit until you
have achieved the sound you want.
8. When finished swipe up to back and double tap
9. Keep hitting back until you are out of the Speech dialog.
10. Close settings and all should now be well!
All the best,
Cearbhall
