I tried the define name with LibreOffice Calc but the nvda did not work. So
I decided to send you this simplified excel file so that you can add the
defined name and test with nvda. The file contains real budget figures so I
would appreciate that you treat this file condifentially. The bottom righy
cell is F21. It should be straightforward for me but not so without excel
and nvda on the one computer.

I described the simple operation of setting rows and column headings using
the JAWS keystrokes JAWS-key+control+alt+c or JAWS-key+control+alt+r. These
are enabled in JAWS by default.
For NVDA users the keystrokes are NVDA-key+shift +c or NVDA-key+shift+r.
These are not enabled by default so the user must make sure both "Tables"

"Row/column headers" are checked in the tables grouping In Document

Both of the above only report rows and columns that are filled with data

stop at the first blank cell in any row or column.
Excel has a built-in feature using "Defined Names" that is easy to apply
but
may seem more complicated at first. JAWS users will need to have " define
names override" set to "off".
NVDA users can access Define Names by default.
Procedure:
* First you must identify the bottom rightmost cell that you want to
define.
Then, position the cursor on the first cell in the top left corner of the
worksheet where your column and row headings intersect.
* Now open "Define Names", by pressing control+F3 followed by the letter
"n"
for "new".
This opens on the edit box where you can type the new name.
*In this box type any name ie "beads", "title1", "Cars" ... followed
immediately by two full stops followed by the cell coordinates of the
bottom
righthand corner of the area you want to cover
The result should look like: "Cars..Z25"
* Tab severaltimes to OK if that is available or simply close the define
names dialogue.
Now both JAWS and NVDA will report the column headings or the row headings
when your cursor is anywhere within the area you are covering. This will
keep
going even if there are blank rows or columns within the area.
Here is a friendly video that might make it clearer. It uses JAWS as the
screen reader but it is the same for NVDA without the need to set the
override.
