-Radio drama workshop for people who are blind or visually impaired
People with sight loss in South County Dublin are being invited to
participate in an exciting project which will see them making new radio
dramas about their experiences of the world.
Sightless Cinema is now in its fourth year and proving hugely successful,
with public audio presentations of the plays, created by members, at UCD and
Lighthouse cinemas, and another planned for this month (September 2017).
The radio drama workshops are due to begin on Thursday 4th October 2017 at
RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre at the Tallaght Luas stop. This
collaborative arts project is funded by South Dublin County Council Arts
Office, and facilitated by NCBI Services.
The initial series of 8 workshops will introduce ways of creating radio
drama.
Ciaran Taylor, Theatre Director Deviser with Carpet Theatre promises that
people will find the workshops an interesting foray into the world of drama
production, stressing that no prior experience is necessary.
Well work together in a fun relaxed way to explore how to create stories
using sounds and words.- Well experiment with recording voices and sound
effects, and real sounds from your daily life. Well then see how these can
be used to tell stories in sound. Wed also like you to show us how you use
sound technology (phones, computers ), if you do.
We plan then to continue workshops on Thursday mornings until March / April
2018, with the aim of making recordings in a sound studio for a presentation
later in 2018.
Ciaran says that the productions will appeal to a wide audience, having a
particular richness for people who are visually impaired.
Gerard Byrne, National Services Manager with NCBI echoes this belief saying
Sightless Cinema is a wonderful example of how creative activities and peer
support can prove to be such an enjoyable and empowering experience. NCBI
also believes that initiatives like this also serve to raise awareness in
the wider community about the experiences of people who live with sight
loss.
