Hi folk,
I promised I'd do a review of the orcam Read 3 but as there is an
improved model to come across to these shores in a couple months time
I'll just give you a brief outline as to how I got on today.
So I went to Sight and Sound in Clane Co. Kildare today where my wife
Deirdre and myself were made so welcome indeed.
I was allowed ample time to explore everything which was something
important to me.
The device I tested was really only for print-impaired folk as in
dyslectic people for example so wouldn't have all the extras that a
blind person would need in my humble opinion.
Having said all that I was so impressed at the way it read everything to
me that I placed before it.
It missed an occasional line or few letters but no worries perhaps they
were just blurred anyway.
It could read two sides of a book (left going then to right) but I found
that one page at a time was better.
A little problem which they will ffix I understand it to when to know as
a blind person that you are in line of sight of all the page.
A sighted person will see the beam on the page so if there was a beep or
something like that that would be just great.
Remember the orcom Read 3 is not made strictly for the blind.
I was so impressed with the reading accuracy , pronunciation and the
'normal' way it was reading a book and so on.
The sound could have been louder but then you can bluetooth it so that
will solve that.
All-in-all a great day and a great success.
Before I go I'd like to thank Tom and Jackie who kindly informed me how
they got on with the orcam saying that they thought the product was just
brilliant to paraphrase.
One said to me that is they won the lotto they'd go out straightaway
and buy one while the other said that they have their device now for
about four years and are very comfortable with it.
Bear in mind my report is subjective although I''m trying my best to be
objective so all I['ll say now is give it a try if you are at all
interested and I doubt if you'll be disappointed with the product.
Now whether in time you'll go out and buy an orcam of whatever flavour
as they say or another product of it's type well over to you.
Tony
