Transport for Ireland have released a new app called TFI live that combines
the journey planner app and the Realtime information app into one. As
Transport for Ireland is part of our national transport service and will be
widely used. David Redmond is going to let us know how to migrate our stops
from the old real time information app to the new TFI Live app.
Moving stops into the new TFI Live App
Transport for Ireland, (or TFI) shut down their real time information app on
Tuesday. The app, which allowed users to get info on when their bus might
arrive has now been replaced by a new app called TFI Live. In fact, TFI live
also now contains the popular journey planner app inside and can be found on
a tab at the bottom of the app simply called journey. So that's two apps
combined into one.
If you were a user of the old real time information app you will need to
migrate your favourite stops over into the new one. Thankfully, this is a
relatively manageable process, all be it a bit tedious.
In this article I will go through the basic steps on how to move a stop
over.
How do I do it?
To move a stop into the new TFI Live app there are just a few steps you need
to follow.
1. First you need to get the stop number that you want to add as a favourite
in the new app. Open the old real time information app, and you should find
yourself in the main menu which has a list of your saved stops. Note down or
copy the number of the stop you want to move, then head over to the new TFI
Live app.
2. Open the TFI Live app and go to the departures tab at the bottom. Then
select the search button at the top right of the screen.
3. In the text field, enter or paste in the number from the old real time
app. You should then find the stop you're looking for in the results.
4. Select the stop, then add it to favourites using the button on the top
right. You then get a dialog that allows you to rename the favourite to
something more recognizable.
5. Then just select the add button.
The stop will now appear in the favourites tab for easy access.
Conclusion
While a migration like this can be a bit tedious, especially if you have
lots of stops, the new app is quite accessible. It's a small bit clunky in
parts and a dark mode would be nice, but it's certainly more responsive than
its predecessor.
Hopefully, the app continues to receive updates over the next few months and
years and maintains or improves its accessibility going forward.
