This tutorial has been written by NCBI's Paul Traynor.
1. Open iTunes.
2. Create a playlist. Click on File; New; Playlist, to begin a new playlist.
Notes: From the keyboard use keys, "Control + N"
3. Your playlist should appear on the left hand side menu. Rename this
playlist whatever you want by clicking on the highlighted text and inputting
the name of your mix, that is the new name you wish to call the playlist.
Notes: From the keyboard use the "Tab key" to move through this dialogue
box.
4. Add songs to your playlist. If you are a mouse user then Simply drag and
drop the songs you want in your burned CD over to the playlist you just
created. When doing this, you'll see a small green circle with a white plus
sign on it. .You can add songs individually by dragging and dropping them
into the new playlist, or you can highlight several songs at once and drop
them into the new playlist.
.To drag several songs at once into your playlist, click on the first song,
hold down the Shift button, and click on the last song in the series that
you want highlighted. The first song, the last song, and all songs in
between will be highlighted. Now, simply drag and drop as instructed.
Notes: Using the keyboard I find that I prefer to have the songs I want to
burn to CD already on my computers hard drive. I then go into the folder on
the hard drive, select all the songs I want to burn onto the new CD and copy
them. I then go back into ITunes and after "Tab key" over to the "Add
button" and pressing "Spacebar" I look for the list area where I now paste
in the songs. Use keys, "Control + V" to paste in the music.
5. Either Insert a blank CD-R disc, or already have one placed in the CD/DVD
drive and waiting until the disc is recognized. The disk should be visible
on your desktop if you have some vision or you may hear a short couple of
notes play from the computer indicating that the CD drive is now in use.
Notes: This whole process shouldn't take more than 30 seconds. Standard
burnable CD-R discs hold 74 minutes/650 MB or 80 minutes/700 MB of data. If
your playlist exceeds 80 minutes, you may need to divide the playlist onto
two discs.
6. After having copied the songs into the new playlist music window within
ITunes, now "Tab key" over to the "Done button" and press the "Spacebar"
once.
7. Now Select File menu, using keys, "Alt + F" and "arrow down" to "Burn
Playlist to Disc". Press the "Enter key" once on this option.
8. Figure out the burn settings. Adjust it so that the playlist is burned as
you desire. You will have the following items to configure:
Notes: Use the "Tab key" to move through the controls. Use arrow keys to
select any multiple choice controls, use "Spacebar" to select or activate
buttons or checkboxes.
*. Burn speed. Generally, the faster the burn speed, the lower the sound
integrity.
*. Type of CD, radio buttons. (Audio, MP3 etc) Use arrow keys to choose.
*. Gap between songs. (2 seconds default"
*. Use sound check, checkbox. (Not checked) *. Include CD text, checkbox.
(Not checked default) *. Help Button.
*. Burn Button.
*. Cancel Button.
9. Select "Burn" by pressing the "Spacebar" on it when you are ready to
make the CD.
Notes: It can take a little time for the CD to complete the burning. ITunes
just returns to your list of songs when it has finished and gives no other
indication that the new CD has completed. The only thing that is noticeable
when the CD has finished is that Windows gives a chime sound as if it
indicates something new has been identified, in this case the newly burned
CD.
