Two Government ministers have met with Eir and Vodafone, separately, to
voice concerns about ongoing issues with the customer service they are
providing.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar
and Communications Minister Eamon Ryan held the meetings on Friday.
Eir in particular has been the source of ongoing complaints with consumers,
with some reporting having to wait for periods of more than an hour to speak
to customer service staff.
Others have reported unanswered calls and emails regarding customer service
queries.
The company has committed to addressing the issue.
Mr Varadkar said the issues are so severe they are "causing a huge amount of
frustration for people".
He described the meeting with Eir representatives as useful.
"It was good to hear first-hand from the companies. Both companies set out
their plans to resolve the issues causing problems, so I really hope we see
things improving for customers soon," he added.
Minister Ryan said he hoped that consumers should see improvements in
services from both Vodafone and Eir in the near future.
"It was important to relay the level of dissatisfaction being experienced by
people who are doing their best to work from home," Mr Ryan said.
"The two companies outlined the solutions they are working on, and we should
see improvements in the near future. While we are rolling out the National
Broadband Plan, we also need existing services to offer a high standard of
service," he added.
The chief executive of Eir, Carolan Lennon, and other representatives are
due to appear before the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and
Communications next Wednesday.
