The number of voice calls made and texts sent by Irish phone users declined
in the second quarter of the year but data usage is continuing to rise.

The latest electronic communications report from the Commission for
Communications Regulation (ComReg) shows that, on a monthly basis, the
average mobile phone subscriber used 197 minutes, a 13.6% annual decrease,
sent 37 texts, a 17.6% annual decrease and used 13.8 GB of data, an increase
of 25.8%.

5G subscribers totalled 664,000, an increase of 23% on the previous quarter.

Total mobile subscriptions increased to 8.3 million in the second quarter of
the year, driven by a rise in post pay subscriptions which now represent
over 70% of all mobile subscriptions.

Fixed broadband subscriber lines increased to 1.59 million, a 0.5% increase
this quarter and an increase of 2.6% compared to last year.

According to ComReg, on a monthly basis, the average fixed residential
broadband subscriber line used 344.2 GB of data, an increase of 0.2%
compared to 2021.
