Currently Amazon Alexa are rolling out a new voice with an Irish accent.
Amazon announced this on November 18th. This is going to be released on a
phased basis, so if you did not get it already it will be with you very
soon.
Denis Stansbury, Alexa country manager for UK and Ireland, has said
"personalisation of our devices is a highly desirable feature. When
customers told us they wanted an Irish-English voice option for Alexa we
knew we had a big challenge on our hands as there's so many different and
distinct Irish accents".
If you want to check if your Alexa smart speaker has the new voice, try
saying Alexa change your voice and Alexa will respond by going through all
the available voices.
Other dialects available include Two US voices, Two British voices, Two
Australian voices, Two Canadian Voices, and two Indian voices. If the Irish
voice is not available to you right now you can get a sample of it by saying
to your smart speaker, "Alexa do an Irish accent."
What else can I try on my Smart Speaker?
The World Cup is trending at the moment and if football is your thing, you
can ask your Alexa smart speaker who is playing in the world cup today?
Your Alexa smart speaker will respond with the list of matches for that day
including the kick off times.
"Alexa what is the score in the England match"? Alexa will respond with the
score and how many minutes are gone in the game.
If you fancy listening to the game live, try saying Alexa play BBC 5 live
radio. (BBC 5 live given for example purposes only, many other radio
stations are available).
