Hi Tony. Please note that the 5 digit code is your user name and the password
is your surname. Counter intuitive I know but that will save you some
frustration. No capitals either.
Good luck
Mary

Nice notes as usual Paul.
I recently bought a new battery for my iPhone 8 and I'm glad to report that I
get a lot more battery time now and would certainly recommend the purchase.
It cost me 50 euro at my local IT shop.
I was also given the great tip of turning off app refresh and that appears to
help too.
On Overdrive I'm having problems logging in but I'll try Mary's tip now and
fingers crossed and all that.
Thanks
Tony

Hi All, on this American independence day, Weather is set to improve with
temperatures rising above 20 degrees from Thursday onwards!!
There were 14 participants today which included a visit from Stuart Lawler
from Sight and Sound.
Things got under way with Annette complaining about her battery on her Iphone
7.
She must charge her phone at least twice a day if not more. She does not
listen to radio stations, but mostly uses her phone to listen to books and
make calls and send texts.
Paul said that the iPhone 7 is well known to have battery problems. She
charges her phone in the morning to 100 per cent, but by early evening the
battery level is around 20 percent with low battery level kicked in.
Tom also said that his new Iphone mini 12 is also bad for battery level.
Tom purchased a power pack from Pennys for 13€ and this was a great
investment.
Also he purchased two short cables around 5 inches to enable him to
use the power pack to its best advantage. , from Amazon for aroung
20€
Mary who tracked down a book she wanted to read for a long time. But its
only available via Overdrive.
She received sighted help in setting up Overdrive.
But at the end she was asked to put in her user name and password.
Amazingly she ended up putting in her password first and her user name
second.
This was the only way she could log in successfully.
At this point Albert who never fails to promote his favourite gadget (REVO )
purchased from Steve Knut in England. This is a mini keyboard which allows
him to make calls and texts almost unnoticed in the bus.
But Albert said that when Apple update their software this can have a bad
affect on his Revo keyboard.
Then he asks Revo to update their app to take account of the new ios
software update There was much discussion on a topic started by Joe, that is
one of using the alt plus arrow up key on a word document to creat a s
short cut to for attaching a word document to an e mail using Google Crome.
Contributors here included Vera/Cearbhall/Bert/ Mary.
John told us of a great new app he installed called Merlin bird id.
This will tell you when installed on your Android or Apple smart phone which
bird is singing and making a noise.
It works rather like Shazam which does the same thing to identify a disc
played on the radio.
Stuart then took to the stage and told us of the many offers that Sight and
Sound have for us.
Cearbhall will post these offers with the correct prices later in the day.
Amongst the star bargains are the latest version of Jaws (home edition) which
will cost you around 138€.
But you can get an upgrade for 114€ and an SMA(software maintenance
agreement ) for also 114€.
The SMA will get you two extra years of the latest version of jaws, and is
worth considering.
There were also similar offers for Zoomtext, like 114€ for the latest version
of Zoomtext, and an upgrade or SMA for aroung 84€.
Zoomtext is a package with has magnification and some audio features.
Also there were offers for Fusion, this is a package which combines Jaws with
Zoomtext, to give you the best magnification and speech device possible.
Other notable items were the Pearl camera and some great braille machines.
Have a look at the prices of all the items when posted by Cearbhall
later in the day, And remember these offers are only available until the
31st of July .
The participants then thanked Stuart for his generous use of his time to
inform all of us on the July offers and answer questions from a number of
people.
Especially on the wonderful hand held scanners which have two buttons one
for power and one to adjust the magnification.
That’s all folks.
Regards
Paul
