It was a leisurely start to our sunny and hot September meeting.
Where we got a fine description of Annette's visit to Bantry Bay, and
Garnish island.
Annette was in fine form, as her county the Royal county of Meath got one
over on the Dubs, Well done Meath.
Annette asked how can she save a text message with another contacts number
which she wants to save without having to go to add to contacts.
Declan and Jackie said that it depends how she gets the contact number to
save.
Sometimes it comes on a business card, where one can simply, double click
the card and an option to add to your contacts will appear.
If it comes with a number and says link,
Then use the rotor button to go to link, and double click here and you
should see save to contacts.
Declan told us of Micro Controllers, , these are like mini computers,
usually to do one or two specific tasks, they can be found in Kettles, or
a myriad of home appliances.
Eamon wanted to know how to save a bookmark in Safari,
Jackie says go to the share button, - and arrow right to go to create
bookmark, and select by double tapping here.
One can also create a webpage of your favourite bookmarks, and save them on
screen alongside your other apps.
Tom was interested in learning more about Microsoft soundscape.
Paul explained that there was many things on the soundscape menu, like,
Current location, my location, what's around me.
Current location is where you can create a marker. So your on the street,
and at the post box, it says the name of the road that your walking on, but
you want to be able to find the post box, So you go save marker, and it will
have as the default marker the name of the road, but you can go to the edit
field, and type in post box..
My location is a detailed account of your markers as you travel around, and
What's aroung me, gives you everything around you for several roads nearby.
Jackie complained that the open source maps were very old, having shops, and
other names that had longsince disappeared.
Tom wondered if the Blind square maps could work with soundscape.
Jackie said that she thought that this was possible.
Tom told us of a library he joined, called scribd, its Spanish, and audio
books cost around 9.99 dollars. According to Vera.
Jackie told us that she has got her Orbit pro plus 20 braille reader again.
She wants to read a fairy story by the brothers Grimm.
Cearbhall told her to join Book share.
Jackie also wants to learn about Contractions in Braille, and explained
that braille is made up of six dots, and when combined in a certain way
can create shortcuts for longer words.
As I am out of my depth here , I will terminate this discussion on
braille now.
Cearbhall told us of a nasty text scam, involving a person to tell somebody
of their financial details, and this brings the person to a very nasty link
which contains a fatal virus. Which can destroy their smart phone or
laptop.
