Alittle colder today, but still mainly dry, so thatâs good.
There were 10 participants via zoom for todayâs tech meeting.
Albert told us that a recent visit to a phone shop, told him that the new
iPhone 13 pro is now being discontinued.
But as Bert says that this phone is very new, and it seems strange that
itâs taken out of service so quick.
Joe told us that he received a discount of 250⬠when he traded in , his
iPhone 10 for an iPhone 13.
Mary expressed an interest in purchasing the new iPhone 14, but will probably
wait as she wants to avail of the new Euro ruling that all charges must be
generic as to work and charge any model of phone from 2024 onwards.
Paul wanted to change his voice after downloading of ios 16, Paul does not like
the voice which came after the download.
Stuart said go to Settings, then accessability then voice over, then speech,
and then select your new voice.
Paul selected the enhanced version of voice Moira.
Talk began about the difficulty of playing RTE radio 1.
One must say to Alexa, Alexa play RTE radio 1 from Tune in.
Both Paul and Bert, had problems in playing RTE 1 from Simple radio.
After installing ios 16, RTE1 is not available anymore from Simple radio.
Bert wrote to the developers , and they said that there were difficulties with
RTE 1, and they were working to resolve the situation.
Bert also wondered if he should start to download Windows 11, he does not
really want to do this , but thinks itâs only a matter of time before we
must all upgrade to Windows 11.
Many people are reluctant to take this step as this is a more graphic version
of Windows, which does not suit screen readers.
Many people have said that updating Windows 10 is taking an age, and most
visually impaired persons wondered why this should be,
They sit at their Laptops or Desktops, and wonder wat is going on?
They can see that something is written on their screens but cant read the
message using JAWS or NVDA.
Bert/Cearbhall suggested the following, use Control key plus Windows key plus
the Enter button to engage the Microsoft screen reader, NARRATOR.
This can often help and has indeed read the message, DONâT SHUT DOWN YOUR
PC, until the updates are completed.
Martin told us of how he reads his books. Using his new Blind SHELL phone and
a programme called RUL GALAXY,
He can arrow to the book and click start, and he finds this brilliant.
Martin dropped his smart phone recently and had to go to the phone Doctor, who
restored it to itâs former glory.
Mary wondered if many people insured their phones now.
The concensus was that not many did this, Paul thought that insuring meant one
had to be very careful, not to drop or leave their phone behind them.
Insurance relaxes you into a false sense of security.
This form of insurance tends to be very expensive and poor value for money
Mary uses a gadget called Bush, which she normally purchases from Argus, but
they had none in stock, and did not know when they would receive new
deliveries.
Then she saw that Amazone had it in stock for 18.99 euros, but the price in
Argus was only 14.99,
However she did not think that the increase was too much, so decided to buy
three of these BUSH mp3 players.
But she is been charged postages on all three of these gadgets.
Michael said that she should use the basket to buy all three, then a larger
envelope would be used to post all three in one go.
This gadget sound great, it is very very small, but Mary can record her choir
practice notes here.
Thatâs all folks
Paul
