Hello Guys, its Monday again!!
And a slow start to our technology exchange club meeting.
Cearbhall, was not able to get into the Zoom meeting, despite his best
efforts.
It seems that the FB meeting list was withdrawn from the Zoom meetings.
After 6 months , this needs to be updated again, and Cearbhall had not got
the authority to to do this update .
However Jackie appeared on the scene and all was ok, but more likely was
the fact that Peter was able to do the necessary updating.
There was more discussion on mobility apps, with Mary , Jackie,and Albert
favouring the Blind Square over the soundscape app.
But Paul is very pleased with his use of Soundscape.
Mary and Jackie, and Bert said that Blind Square uses the Google maps, while
Soundscape is using very old open source maps, where the shop names are very
out of date.
Mary was afraid that she might be looking for her favourite hair dresser,
and instead walk into a lap dancing club!!.
Mary reported that while using the Good maps app an update of Sendora, the
road names were called out in Irish.
It could happen that Mary might become the first Irish speaking lap dancer.
Tom told us of his enjoyment of attending the Abbey virtual audio described
play.
It took him a long time to connect to the link, but when connected , the
play was first class, and he really got a lot of pleasure for attending.
Vera told us of her travel experience in going to Spain.
Her Euro vaccination certificate was examined in Spain, and she had to fill
in a locater form as well.
The resort she went to, had many tourists from Ireland/Norway/Sweden, and
very little British.
Jackie reported that the Tesco app had many flaws, and she had to return
many items from her basket, it was rather annoying.
Tom was asking for information on using an air fryer, he did not know how to
set the timer. Jackie says that she turns the knob to one hour, and then
sets a timer on Alexa for 10 minutes, and then checks on the condition of
her chicken.
She checks every 5 or 10 minutes, and opens the drawer to see if it has
cooked properly.
Jackie was excited she received a letter from Christine Walshe, in braille
with contractions,
And was able to read the letter.
Well done Christine.
Mary wondered if the Blind Shell mobile phone could use Borrowbox.
Martin said that he did not think so, it has only room for one or two
apps.
Mary asked if it was possible to transfer contacts from another mobile to
the Blind shell phone.
It probably is, but you might have to go to a Vodaphone retailer and get a
member of staff to help you.
People started talking about battery usage, and what uses most, most
people said that using location and mobility apps, is very hard on the
battery.
Some people said that reading books on your phone is also very heavy on the
battery,
It was suggested that people should turn off background and refresh on
their smart phones, as this when on, can use a lot of battery on your phone
without you noticing anything.
Mary got a notice that her 3 credits with audible.com would go out of date
in a couple of days, if she did not use them.
Paul is awaiting the arrival of his new JVC television set and also his 360
virgin media box.
He asked if anybody was able to use the voice command on virgin media
remote control, to record programmes. The only person who had this set up
was Mary,
But she has never used it as her husband has hidden the remote control.
!!Paul wants to try and record programmes, and use chrome cast. That's all
