Hi All,
Weather still reasonable for the start of Winter, it's warm , so
don't need to put the heat on so much.
There were 10Participants for today's meeting. .
Cearbhall was in a lively mood, telling us of his brand new gaget.
It's a smart Oral B electronic toothbrush which connects to his smart
phone.
Sounds good, it was a present from his beautiful wife.
Not sure it's for me!!
A lively conversation was had about the problems of a visually
impaired person brushing their teeth.
Most people put the tooth paste on their tongue, then commenced with
the brushing of their teeth.
We found out then Mary uses Sensetine toothpaste!! It protects the
enamel on your teeth.
Between Cearbhall and Mary it was turning into a Dentist marketing meeting.
Congratulations to the Fighting Blindness choir who have qualified for
the semi -finals of the choir competition.
We all wished the choir good luck in their endevours to win the competition.
Mary was also congratulated after getting the lifetime award at the
recent public engagement day held by Fighting Blindness in the
Radisson Blue hotel in Golden Lane in Dublin 2.
Paul told the meeting that his new Iphone SE3 was now restored to
it's full health.
Paul with the fantastic help from Jackie, via phone conversation
established everything by logging in first to his Apple account.
Then selecting language (English) , Then selecting Ireland as the country.
He then clicked set up phone, by selecting latest back up.
He had to engage his wifi, and put in the password for the wifi.
This let to him getting a verification code, which he had to memorise
immediately in order to continue quickly. .
He had to enter his phone number and was also asked for the three
digits on the back of his master card, as their was no help for him at
home , he clicked later at this point.
He then got a message phone restored successfully, this brought a
sense of relief to Paul, and he thanked our tech guru in Sligo, for
a job well done.
Martin said that he was going to an accessability meetin with people
from RTE.
He wanted to know if people were having any difficulties with RTE, W
websites , podcasts and so forth.
Paul said that he always found RTE VERY POOR from an accessability
point of view, and gave up to a large extent in using their various
facilities.
Cearbhall said that he had no problem with their website but found the
RTE Player hopeless.
Tom suggested that Martin should ask their accessability officer to
come on line to one of our meetings, to inform us of what steps they
are taking to making their facilites easier for visually impaired people.
He or she could then listen to our difficulties at first hand.
Mary told us about a new fantastic app which her sister has installed
on her phone.
Her sister is putting up a Ukrainian mother and daughter, neither of
whom speak English.
The App is called SAY HI,. There are two buttons one to speak into
using English and the other to translate into Ukrainian.
The app is a free app, and works very easily and it's brilliant.
Clare told us of a new plan being developed by the Dublin Airport Authority.
Their developing a system where a blind or vision impaired person are
tracked from the moment they leave home, then tracked as they travel
to the airport.
Then they can easily find the person and help them to complete
everything necessary to board the correct plane.
Sounds fantastic and thanks to Clare for sharing this breaking news
with the exchange club.
Clare bitterly complained about the Sky television and broadband
facilities. She complained for many a week about several things
until a good while later they replaced her box.
Tom also found Sky help line very poor, and is changing over to
Virgin Media at the end of the month.
Clare wanted to know the telephone number for contacting SKY
accessability.
Our tech guru in Kilkenny , Michael gave us this number
0818719819. Thanks Michael.
Clare also said that a number E-mails were deleted from her inbox,
simply by her phone..
Cearbhall said that she should go to the Google website where she
should find them and have them restored to her phone.
That's all Folks.
Paul
Must run now as I have to get a smart Oral B toothbrush and a tube of
Sensetine toothpaste, or I will be left behind with my plastic
toothbrush and my run of the mill Colgate toothpaste!!
