Hi Folks, what a fantastic weekend, with our great rugby players
defeating the All Blacks,
And our much improved soccer team hammering Luxembourg by 3 goals to
nil.
It is putting the country in a good mood, for Christmas.
Declan told us of his views on the new planning for 1600 apartments
in the Drumcondra area, and outlined his objections to the development.
Also we had a great chat on the E bikes (electronic scooters).
I t appears that there are two types of scooters, those for rentals
by the various councils, and those privately owned.
It seems that no licence is required to use these bikes, and no
insurance is necessary.
They make no noise and can travel at 25/30 mph.
This is a great worry to all of us vision impaired persons.
Now for the tech details, Paul boasted of casting the Fighting
Blindness Retina meeting, and was able to view and hear the recorded
events on his smart TV set
Move aside Jackie as Paul is coming up on the tech rails!!
Lady w told us of a problem with her mother's recent purchases from Tesco.
Jackie's sister had confirmed her mums TESCO shop on Sunday evening.
Everything went through without any authorisation so everyone was happy.
However, Monday morning Jackie's mum got a text from Tesco saying
there was an issue with the payment. So allot of phone calls were
made and the lady inn the Tesco store said she had to confirm the
payment on the banking app, Jackie's mum is with AIB. There was
nothing to confirm either in the Tesco app or AIB app. In the end
Tesco took payment over the phone. It worried us all with the amount
of scams and Tesco expecting someone to ring a mobile number to
confirm a payment. Jackie also did not receive any emails to say
there was any issues with the payment. Since covid Jackie and her
sisters have been doing her mums online banking and also online
shopping. Jackie is getting her mum to give her permission to speak
on her behalf with the bank in future as it was hairy this morning.
Its just a warning for anyone that does a Tesco shop there is a chance there
could be an issue on the day the shop is due to be delivered.
This happened to Paul in buying a stroller (pram),
A few months, no authorisation was asked for and no number came
from the Bank of Ireland,
But Paul did nothing and nothing happened.
Between the banks and supermarkets, it seems that the normal people
are taking most of the responsibility in these matters, and not the
banks or retailers.
Mary asked that while on Zoom, and wanting to ask a question
contained on an e mail. ,
Could she ask the question and would her screen reader (jaws) be
heard by other people using the zoom.
Declan /Jackie, said that she must use her finger in an upward move
to access the app switcher , but don't leave Zoom but park yourself
in the Home section,
And using her headphones, she can go to her e mail, ask the questions
and nobody will hear her Jaws software speaking.
Bob had question on anti virus software, he got a question which
disturbed him.
Declan said not to update his anti virus, as it is a scam.
Declan told him to remove the anti virus software and use Windows
Defender, which comes with Windows 10.
He should do a complete scan , if necessary leaving it on all night
to do a complete scan of his computer.
He can remove his other anti virus software by going to the
add/remove programme.
Bert uses a paid anti virus software package as well as Windows
Defender, its called ESET , and they are based in Waterford.
Tom wanted to know how to Find his iPhone by using his Apple watch.
Jackie told him to use Siri, and ask his watch to find the phone.
Siri, replied that she could not do this at the moment.
Jackie tried this also , and got the same answer. But her phone
gave a whistle sound to indicate where it was anyway.
We were joined by Victoria speaking from Poland.
She is doing a course on computer IT, for a degree in computers.
The first module involved using a computer language called Scratch,
which is a visual language, and is not accessible to Victoria.
Several people suggested that she could ask her university * the
OPEN university could she use java or some other computer language
to do the same thing.
Declan offered to send her letter on her behalf to outline her
problems in completing this module.
Good advice was given by Gerry and Cearbhall, suggesting she should
enlist the help of the RNIB, as well as the access officer for the
university.
That's all folks
Paul
