There were 9 participants for today's meeting, and an apology was received
from Annette.
Mary is going down to Cork, to train with a new guide dog. When there she
intends to try out the various aspects of Navi Lens.
She will download codes from the Navi Lens site, and print off a number of
codes. Then she will place them on her bedroom door, passage ways and
anywhere it could help her with mobility access.
It seems that the codes can be detected from at least 60 feet, if not much
more. Your smart phone will detect the codes with the camera and inform
you where you are and what door you are entering.
When the code is detected, the sound will get louder as you approach the
place where the Lens sticker is located.
Mary will report on this experiment when she returns from Irish Guide Dogs.
Of course should you place Navi LENS codes outside , you should have the
codes laminated, to protect from the elements.
Tom who is also an enthusiastic user of Navy Lens, wanted to know , how to
set up a Zoom meeting.
Cearbhall and Stuart told him that there is an invite button on the Zoom
page, and here you can invite a number of friends/family members and so on,
to attend a Zoom meeting.
When those of you who have been invited click on the invitation to the
meeting, , the host will let them in to join and discuss whatever.
Paul reported that his SE Apple phone SE 3, has had another hardware
failure, and he is not best pleased.
He intends to visit his local Vodafone shop to discuss this phone which is
still under warranty.
There was a discussion on Blind Tennis as Cearbhall intends to join the
Shankill club and take up this sport.
Great information on how Blind Tennis works was supplied by our experts
Stuart and Martin.
There is a musical sound put inside the ball which allows the participants
to detect the ball by sound.
It seems that you need to be fit and flexible to play this sport.
Martin reported that the cosmetic company Estee Louder have now got an app
showing vision impaired people on how to apply their make up to the best
advantage.
Perhaps Mary and Martin can do this together and report back to us plain
folk!!
Paul and Cearbhall both sent E mails to the creators of Sound Scape but
neither got a reply of any sort.
This shows Microsoft up in a very bad light.
A good discussion on Apple Books , who have now got a range of AI voices
available to read their books.
Tom reported that he used an artificial intelligence voice to read an Apple
book, and found it almost human, and very good.
This is very good but a bit scary.
The minute taker wonders if the attendance meeting this time next year could
be 10 participants and 10 robotic people as well.
On this scary note, I will bid you good health and happiness until next week.
That's all folks
Paul
