Hello Folks,  a cold and blustery day in the capital, but officially Winter ends on January 31st, but of course  the Met office  says that Winter ends at the end of February.

I find that January is a month which never seems to end.

There were 14 participants for this mornings Dublin tech club.

The notetaker Paul, started off the meeting, by saying that he often asks SIRI, to send a whats app message  to for instance Dennis O’Connor, but SIRI,  will say that he does not see this name in my contacts, then Paul says send a whats app message to Dennis , and Siri, will say sending a what’s app message to Dennis O’Connor The name Dennis O’Connor is fictitious to me but I am using it to illustrate  the problem only.

Also Paul asks SIRI,  to make a call to Dennis, and the same thing happens, Siri,   says that he does not see Dennis O’Connor in his contacts.

Cearbhall says that this happens to him as well.

Adrian askedPaul if when composing a new contact does he put the first  and second name in the first contact field, but Paul says normally he uses the first field  for the first name and the second edit field for the sirname.

Paul will check the offending contacts to see  whether he might have  put both of their names on the one edit line.

Marti wanted to know if there was anywhere she could get some money  for some of her old phones.

Paul said that Vodafone now buy back some of the old phones, and he sold his old se3 phone and an old iPhone 7 and got good money for them.

Vera told us of a shop in Liffey street in Dublin called C.E.X. , and  they buy some old phones, cleaning them and examining them  to make sure that they work.

There  are a few branches of C.E.X. in Dublin, and Tom said that they had a shop in Galway as well.

Gerry wanted to know if there was anyway  to increase the strength and clarity of his broadband,  not to be confused by increasing the range, just the volume. .

The notetaker got a little lost with the technical talk that ensued.

Basically the line has been droppingupstairs, and the clarity is very poor.  Gerry wanted to know what TCP, should he use?

TCP stands for Transmission control protacall

After discussing Routers, HDI,  and a myriad of other things, Adrian suggested that Gerry sould call his service provider.

Virgin Media are his provider and he can say that his system needs to be updated and perhaps  this could be the start of curing his problems.

Cearbhall said that over the Christmas period, his connections kept dropping and he put this down to  a huge increase in people downloading movies and so forth.

Joe has a problem. He got  an E-Mail from Fighting blindness with an attachment containing about 20 questions.

He is unable to open the attachment and answer the questions.

Cearbhall thought that the attachment  could be in reader mode.

He suggested that Joe should engage the rooter and see if there is an edit button there.

Eamonn said should this not work, that Joe  should ring Fightingblindness and answer those questions over the phone.

Talk about using your digital signature on a document when required.

Cearbhall/Adrian outlined the difficulties of putting the signature in the correct place.

This topic was discussed this morning

Also plenty of talk about vip’s visiting hospital, and being asked if they have private health insurance,  it appears that hospitals will do their most to deal with your health issues with the private health  rather than your medical card.

Martin  has experienced this recently.

Tom told us of his joy at getting an amazon  firestick from his nephew. He needs to know how to set up everything.

It seems that the firestick has Alexa on it, so should give some real enjoyment to Tom, when set up to

View the many channels and be able to use  audio description. .

We look forward to  hearing from Tom when Amazon firestick is fully functional.

There will be no meeting next Monday as it is a bank holiday.

Good luck to Ireland playing France next Friday in Marseille 8pm in the sixth nations Rugby union.

Finally how dare Monaghan  beat the Dubs, is nothing sacredAnymore !!!

That’s all folks

Paul
