Subject: [fb-exchange] Re: exchange club 29/05/2023
thank you Paul for this very interesting information. I think if as a group
of vision impaired people with access technology needs regarding the TFI
Live App, we could approach the developers about how to make it more user
friendly for us. personally I think there is information overload on it and
even people with no vision difficulties do not like using the app as they
find it quite complex. in the meantime I am using Next Bus Dublin app which
is a bit more basic and meets my needs better. however, using VoiceOver,
there are some icon buttons which are unlabelled. One of these for example
is the button to set favourites. I know which button out of two buttons but
I'm just interested to know because I'm sure I've heard in the past that
it's possible to label unlabelled buttons using VoiceOver. is anyone able to
direct me as to how I would do this? I should point out that I am using very
old technology and I am referring to an iPhone 6 using OS 12.
many thanks.

Hello Folks, At last I can report that Summer weather has arrived at
least for the next few days.
There were 12 Participants for today's lively meeting.
Most people were able to Log onto today's Tech club by entering the
Password supplied by Declan.
Most people were prompted to enter a password when opening the Zoom
so.
Mary wanted to know what the best QR reader was?
Albert /Cearbhall said that a QR reader was built into the camera on
your smart Iphone.
You must point your camera at the QR code, which nowadays can be on
some Tourist attractions at home or abroad in back view camera mode.
Also Cearbhall pointed out that a QR reader was also available in the
Seeing AI app.
Mary who travels the world on a weekly basis, said on a recent visit
to Italy, many tourist attractions had QR codes on them, where when
one pointed their camera at the code, a piece of text would appear on
your phone with all the relevant history.
Paul wondered if this works with voice over to give you an audio
description of the tourist site?
More discussion commenced about the recent beta version of Soundscape.
Some developers are working on taking over and creating a new version
of Soundscape.
Yours truly is among those in trying out the new app, to see if it
works as well as
As the recent Soundscape app which is now no longer being supported.
Those trying the beta version will report back to the new developers
with their findings shortly.
Tom wanted to know more about Face Recognition. Mary uses this
facility for opening many of her apps, like payment apps, Insurance
apps, and some web sites.
One must said up Face Recognition by holding the phone about 12-16
feet in front of your face and move the phone around 360 degrees ,
to cover a variety of face poses.
Mary who was a lively contributor to the meeting, had another problem
with her Revolut card.
She sent some money via Revolut to a friend in her contact list. But
the friend did not get the money as she does not use Revolut, but she
said that her husband had a card.
However the money left Mary's account but could not be obtained by
her friend.
Mary says that the money has left her but is now in no man's land.
She is wondering if there is a way of recalling the money transaction.
Bert said that she should open theTransfer link on her Revolut app,
and look for recall transaction, she will try this over the next day or
the SKY set ups,
Jackie who recently took the podcast market by storm with her
appearance on the most recent NCBI TECHNOLOGY podcast. Told us of a
brilliant new Braille device. It's called the Braille Doodle.
The works rather like the childrens device, where a child can draw or
sketch, and then clean the screen by simply pulling out where they
have drawn to clean the pad, so they can then do a new sketch.
he Braille Doodle, has one side where somebody can draw or sketch,
and when finished a blind person can feel the drawing, say one
sketches a house, then a vision impaired can feel the outside of the
house, the door, the chimney or the walls of the house.
This is a fantastic way of explaining to a blind person what an
object is really like , like a motor car or a hotel.
While on the other side of the Braille machine is a selection of steel
balls which educate a child on learning the Braille language.
The was a lot of talk on the newTFI transport for Ireland app, which
a lot of people find very hard to navigate.
The old Dublin bus and Real time apps have now disappeared and have
been replaced by this new TFI transport app, which gives times for
buses, trains , and of course the Luas.
Other topics concerned the various programmes available through Sky,
like Sky Glass, SKY PLUS, and sky go. As yours truly is a reluctant
Virgin media customer , and knows little regarding the machinations of
I will not attempt to describe these programmes.===========================================================
That's all folks
Paul
Ps congratulations to Munster in winning the URC TROPHY by defeating
