Hello Folks, on this Halloween day
There were 8 flying broomsticks participants in attendance.
Things got underway with Tom regaling us with more stories of his Tandem
holiday in Spain.
The price of his holiday including renting of his Tandem, accomadation and
flights was a mere 450€.
For this, he had walks, swims and Tandem cycling with his guide (Pilot).
There were 12 cyclists, that is 6 vision impaired people plus 6 guides , which
they call Pilots.
We then had a discussion on that Microsoft app, Soundscape.
Tom wanted to know if he could set up a marker for a simple right turn that
was not on a named street.
Paul said that one can set up a marker anywhere, simply by going to Markers,
then to the edit field, where one can write whatever suits them to denote
where they are, so they can continue their journey safely.
Paul/Cearbhall/Martin are enthusiastic praising the app.
Cearbhall said that the Audio Beacon is useful in keeping you on the straight
and narrow road.
It keeps getting louder as you approach your destination, but should you stray
, the Beacon will get softer and softer, so you must move left or right to
hopefully get the Beacon louder, which means that you are back on track.

Tom said that he found the Beacon irritating, as did Paul. .
Paul complained that the app switcher lately did not say what it is closing.
Paul uses the three finger upward movement to close using the app switcher.
Stuart suggested that he opens the app switcher, then engages the Rotor, then
go to Actions, and use a one finger up to clos the app.
Martin wanted to know if there was a keystroke to open the address book in
Outlook.
Cearbhall said that Control+Shift +letter B, will do this for you.
Martin did this and was a happy bunny, as this worked.
To go to your sent mail, or deleted mail, simply use the keystroke Control +
letter Y.
Joanne still has a problem in using Alexa to get recipes for her.
When she asks for a recipe for Madeira cake Alexa says that this feature is
not supported.
Joanne has three devices, 2 named Alexa and one named Echo.
Paul said that she should contact Amazon help desk to sort out the problem.
She could also try and Google an Alexa user group to find out how many people
have had this problem and what the solution for fixing the issue. Is at last.
Cearbhall complained that Dictation using Siri, was hopeless lately.
The dictation would be really bad and wrong and one could not sent the text
out.
Paul asked Siri for the latest standings in the English premier league, Siri,
read the first 10 teams in order, giving the matches played and points
acquired.
Siri then asked Paul does he want the next 10 teams.
Paul said YES, and Siri, said that Yes were a 1970’s
Heavy metal group!!
Paul tried again and instead of saying Yes, he said OK, and SIRI, read the
final 10 teams.
Tom told the group of a machine called OPPTILEX(probably spelt wrong),
Which is a brilliant scanner which with one button pressed will read out all
the text.
It costs thousands so yours truly lost interest.
Thins continued with a very interesting discussion on Blind Tennis.
Stuart and Martin play this sport,
They are in the category B1, which is the most visually impaired category of 6
categories.
We also learned how Stuart learned Karate and Judo.
Well done to everybody who took part in this bank holiday edition of the
exchange club.
The meeting broke up to allow people to dress up for the Halloween night!!
