Ahoy Bert

I followed your instruction! However, when I arrived at "Top & Bottom edge,
Sound was already at on! I pressed the Space Bar & it said sound off. I then
went back into my inbox & went to the top, but no sound!  So I went back &
pressed the Space Bar again.

Kind Regards.

Yours Aye

Hello,
If you go to quick settings, insert plus v arrow down until you hear "top
and bottom edge sound" hit the spacebar.
Its just underneath the progress bar as you arrow down.

Ahoy Guys

Similar to Martin K's scenario, when I got to the top or the bottom of my
inbox, I would hear a jingle to let me know that I was there!

Any advice as to how I'd get the jingle back again would be appreciated.

Kind regards.

Subject: [fb-exchange] exchange meeting May 10, 2021

In attendance: (15 participants)
Martin Kelly, Vera Naughton, Tom Langan, Orla Power, Bert Brown, Gerry
Eastwood, Annette McCarthy, John Chambers, Eamonn O'Connor, Willie Coffey,
Michael Brown, Claire Casady, Joe Murphy, Declan Meenagh, Cearbhall
O'Meadhra.

Apologies: Mary Lavelle and Paul Griffith

Martin brought the meeting's attention to the fact that Joseph Lee is
leaving the NVDA development team. Joseph is a key person in NVDA and
specialises in managing add-ons to solve a variety of problems for NVDA
users. Bert recommended an excellent podcast on NVDA at:

Declan confessed to clutching wildly at a bank of six keys giving him
individual control of a selection of screen reader. Nobody else knew what he
was talking about either! However, we are used to Declan's little ways.

Noreen has to hang on to the control key to retrain JAWS from speaking every
time someone moves in the Zoom meeting. Bert, Declan and several more
invited her to relieve the tension by using JAWS + space bar and the letter
"S" to silence JAWS when needed.

Bert offered a solution to the problem of audio on Bluetooth headsets taking
too long to wake up and speak or play music on their PC. This involves
installing a little windows program called "Silenzio" which keeps the audio
system active, thus ensuring an immediate response when an audio device
activates.

Martin is missing some entertaining but meaningful noises as his emails Whiz
in and out of Outlook and wondered how to get them back. Declan and Bert got
working on the problem and explained that he should Go to File > Options >
Mail and scroll down to the "Message arrival" section. The desired setting
is "Play a sound".

The ongoing voicing problem that Eamonn is struggling with whenever he fills
in an edit box continues without a solution. Eamonn has not given up yet and
will try out a few suggestions which came forward during the meeting.

John has been appearing in zoom meetings with a weird name on his zoom
profile. Declan described how he could change the displayed name from within
the Participants screen without leaving the meeting. It was generally agreed
that this would be difficult because Zoom moves the user name around the
screen as John speaks and so it is hard to keep the screen reader focussed
on the display name until the edit is completed. John will add this to his
homework and we wish him well for a good result.

Martin generously shared a useful JAWS keystroke for alerting the user to
errors in a newly edited file: windows + alt + i. The JAWS help system says
that this key combination "moves the cursor to the next inconsistency". When
editing a document in word, Martin finds this very useful for detecting
double spaces, misspellings, grammar errors, etc.

The old chestnut of a horror of ribbons in Windows applications raised its
ugly head again. Michael wondered if the old tree-structured menu could be
reinstated but it was felt that the best solution would be to try to
understand and work effectively with the ribbons.

Annette asked how she could correct a mis-spelled word in the middle of a
dictated message in IOS. Bert and Michael agreed that dictate was more
useful than SIRI for this purpose as the Dictate function keeps the text
open for edit and so she would be able to use the word settings on the rotor
to work back to the error and then delete the offending characters without
having to erase the whole text. This brought Annette's attention to the
rotor and so Cearbhall and Michael took her through the steps involved by
going to
settings>Accessibility>Voiceover>rotor. Annette was delighted to see the
settings>Accessibility>Voiceover>vast
array of choices that she could attach and undertook to report back.

Tom needed to reset his Orbit 20 Reader and so he and Cearbhall found out
how to do this and now tom is back in action again!

The meeting ended.

All the best,

Cearbhall
