After a profoundly late start, due to Cearbhall sleeping in, All wished Paul a
speedy recovery from his illness.
Annette asked for help finding a member of her WhatsApp group. Mary took a firm
grip on the situation and guided Annette step by step to a spot where, to her
delight, Annette was able to find the missing contact.
Clare was curious about the usefulness of an electronic doorbell. It became
clear that a video enabled doorbell could be accessed from an app on the iPhone
that could see everything that faced the camera on the doorpost.
Useful for recognising visitors and unwelcome jokers alike. While a voiceover
user could not avail of this feature, they were secure in the knowledge that
anyone sighted nearby could take a look and let them know who was at the door.
Otherwise, the voiceover feature that is most useful is in being able to talk
to the visitor through the doorbell and make whatever arrangements were
necessary.
Eamonn brought an update to his ongoing search for a break in the problem of
JAWS speaking the labels of the "To:" and "CC:" boxes in Outlook. The problem
is that the label gets spoken after every keystroke and is most annoying.
Apple advised simply that he restart the phone but this did not resolve the
difficulty.
Tom is exploring the After Shokz AeroPex headset and was looking for advice on
how to pair a second device to it. Cearbhall remembered that this feature was
called "Multipoint pairing" and offered to send a detailed set of instructions
to the list later. This led to a lively discussion of the possibility of having
multiple devices connected to a headset at the same time. Mary has an ongoing
problem with the Insight Choir with which she needs to have two devices running
at the same time. No great conclusions were reached.
Clare was delighted with the support given to her recently by Order of Malta
volunteers when she received her Covid vaccination recently.
The meeting ended with talk of talking hobs, talking thermometers and favourite
talking books.
