wallpapers organization and the option for third-parties to integrate with
Settings for custom wallpapers, some great new accessibility features,
Alipay support in Apple Pay, and more.
Improved accessibility
iOS 14 looks set to offer some major new accessibility capabilities. Our
code findings uncovered a new feature that will be able to detect important
sounds like fire alarms, sirens, door knocks, doorbells, and even crying
babies. Presumably, iOS will translate these alerts into haptics for people
who have hearing loss.
We got some feedback on how this could be valuable in real-world use from

Something that I get concerned about, when I am sleeping, especially, is my
ability to hear important noises like these listed. I have high-frequency
hearing loss, so sometimes, things like sirens allude me. This would be an
amazing companion to have whenever a loved one is not with me to inform me.
More new accessibility features would bring support for the camera to detect
hand gestures while "Audio Accommodations can improve audio tuning over
AirPods or EarPods for people with mild to moderate hearing loss". Further
iOS 14 should offer the ability to run an audiogram on-device to help the
users tune the audio.
Here are Will's thoughts on being able to run audiograms in iOS:
I've had AirPods Pro since they were released, and one thing that I am
thankful for as a hearing aid wearer is their Transparency feature, as I
cannot wear the AirPods and my hearing aids at the same time. One thing I've
yearned for, though, is the ability to fine-tune this functionality, like
raising its volume. Hopefully, this list of functionalities will include the
ability to do that. Otherwise, it's great for people who can only hear
higher or lower frequencies! It's one of the reasons I use the male voice
over the female voice for Siri.
Wallpaper changes
In iOS 13, wallpapers are just split into dynamic, stills, and live
categories. Once you're in stills, for instance, you'll see the available
options all in one place. With iOS 14, our code findings suggest we'll see
categories like "Earth & Moon", "Flowers", etc. to offer better
organization.
An exciting change is it looks like third-parties will be able to provide
wallpaper collections and integrate them right into iOS Settings. With the
new wallpapers we typically get each year with Apple's software and hardware
updates plus the possibility of third-party wallpapers support in iOS
Settings, it makes sense why Apple would add improved organization with new
categories.

Apple has been promoting its Shot on iPhone campaigns for a while and that's
expanded in recent years to Shot on iPhone contests. With iOS 14 Apple will
integrate #shotoniphone challenges in the Photos app and users can submit
and see challenge results in the app.
Another change includes AliPay support for Apple Pay with iOS 14.

Apple is developing a new interface for the iOS homescreen in iOS 14.
According to leaked iOS 14 code obtained by 9to5Mac, the
<https://9to5mac.com/guides/ios-14/> iOS 14 homescreen will include a new
page that allows users to see all of their application icons in a list view.
iPadOS 14.
According to code seen by 9to5Mac, Apple is set to roll out rich system-wide
support for mouse cursors with iOS 14. Apple added rudimentary compatibility
with external mice in iOS 13 Accessibility settings, but iOS 14 (iPadOS 14)
will make it mainstream [.]
The changes coming to the software will bring most of the cursor features
you recognize from a Mac desktop experience to iOS.
iOS 14 homescreen
Currently, you can only view iOS apps through their homescreen icons and
through search. This new page will include a list of all application icons,
making it easier for users to see all of their installed apps at once.
Furthermore, the list view will include several different sorting options
and other details. For instance, you'll be able to filter applications such
that you see all apps that currently have unread notifications. There will
also be support for filtering apps by recently used, giving you better
awareness of the apps you use most and least often.
Finally, this new list view will include smart suggestions powered by Siri
to suggest which applications you might be searching for based on time of
day and location. For instance, the list view might recommend that you open
the Music app when you arrive at the gym.
These changes seem designed to make it easier for users to find applications
that they might have misplaced on their homescreen. It's also similar to the
List View option that exists in watchOS currently.

Leaked iOS 14 code obtained by 9to5Mac corroborates many details about what
to expect from Apple's upcoming hardware refreshes, including the new iPad
Pro, iPhone 9, and AirTags. Apple is also developing a new Apple TV remote,
the code indicates.
New iPad Pro
According to the iOS 14 code, the upcoming iPad Pro refresh will include a
new triple-lens camera array like previous supply chain reporting has
suggested. This camera setup will include a time-of-flight 3D sensor, a
wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens. This is a major
update from the current iPad Pro.
The time-of-flight sensor will likely lend itself to new augmented reality
features.

earlier today that Apple is developing a new augmented reality application
for iOS 14. The app will allow users to get more information about the world
around them via AR.
iPhone 9
iOS 14 code also includes details about the upcoming iPhone 9, again
corroborating past supply chain reporting. The iPhone 9 will support Touch
ID as well as Express Transit capabilities. Apple is hoping to push iPhone 6
users - which does not feature support for Express Transit - to upgrade to
the iPhone 9.
The new iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2 is expected to be released this spring,
likely alongside the release of iOS 13.4 (barring any major delays due to
coronavirus.) The device will, of course, be supported by iOS 14, hence why
details about it are included in the operating system details.
Apple TV
The iOS 14 code seen by 9to5Mac also includes new details about changes to
the Apple TV. Prior versions of tvOS 13 code have revealed that Apple is

iOS 14 also includes the tidbit that there will also be a new Apple TV
remote.
More specific information here is unclear (we're still digging), but the
Siri Remote has been a point of contention for many Apple TV users. It's
also <https://amzn.to/2wN57xO> relatively pricey, which doesn't help the
Apple TV compete against <https://amzn.to/2TZteRQ> lower-cost streaming
boxes.
Apple is also developing a new workouts application for Apple TV. This
application will allow users to download exercises and workouts and be
coached via the Apple TV. All data will sync to Apple Watch, while Apple
Music integration will allow users to listen to their own music during the
workouts.
Lastly, iOS 14 code offers new details on Apple's upcoming AirTag item
trackers. 9to5Mac has <https://9to5mac.com/guides/airtag/> previously
reported many details on AirTags, including

AirTags will be able to be set up in bulk through iOS and that there will be

Users of Apple's newest iPhone models will also be able to track AirTags via
augmented reality. AirTags will also be able to play a sound to help users
locate them.
