Siri is pretty useful for a lott of things, whether it's directions to your
nearest bus station or sarcastic poems - and now one man has now credited
the Apple iPhone's Digital Assistant with saving his life after a house
fire.
Christopher Beaucher from Wilmot, New Hampshire, was checking in on his
mother's cottage on May 1st when he saw something suspicious and went
inside. Beaucher entered and turned on a light switch, causing the house to
erupt into flames.
"Part of it collapsed while I was in it during the initial explosion, so I
couldn't really tell where I was," he told WMUR-TV.
After escaping to his Land Rover outside, Beaucher grabbed his smart phone
but was unable to dial due to the severity of his burns. He could feel
himself going into shock, so knew he needed help as soon as possible.
Thankfully he had the presence of mind to instruct Siri via voice command to
dial 911 - a decision which probably saved his life.
After Emergency Services arrived, Boucher was taken to hospital where he was
treated for burns to his face, hands and knees.
He has said that he hopes to eventually return to his job as a cook, and
tend to his farm in Springfield.
"I'm gonna be okay after all of this, it's just gonna take a while", he
added.
The cottage was vacant and up for sale when it was destroyed. Local police
are investigating the cause of the explosion, and have asked for any
witnesses to come forward.
