I am still pondering my answers to the questions, but I'd like to raise a
concern of mine regarding the GPA requirement, which may also affect the
persistency of the award.
My concern/question on a GPA requirement is -
"Is the required GPA a cumulative grade or is it current academic year?"
The reason I bring this up is that I support "Current ACADEMIC year GPA".
This is based on personal experience.
Our first fish semester, due to
- being in the Band,
- initially choosing the wrong major
and
pisspoor study habits because I had never had to learn how to study
correctly as my semi-rural HS was too easy for me,
I started my academic career with a 1.83 GPA. With a change of majors, a
"Come to Jesus" meeting with an academic officer and essentially teaching
myself how to study, and disappearing into the library for extended periods
of time, I pulled that overall GPA up to 2.93 by exceeding a 3.0 ever after.
So, do we condemn someone to never being eligible due to a bad start or due
we allow for change and improvement?

the A&M Foundation. Any election challenges will be thrown out by SCOTUS.
Just FYI, I would have also voted to use TAMF, and no "secret ballots"

Next item, and I'd like to clear this one quickly as well, is the name of
the scholarship. Currently it's proposed as the "Class of 77 BQ" Sul Ross
Scholarship.
Sul Ross Scholarship is simply the name given to this level of scholarship.

I'm going to hazard a guess that BQ may not be a politically correct term
much longer. Hell, even "Sul Ross" is on a short leash these days.
Perhaps "Aggie Band '77", "Fighting Texas Aggie Band '77", "Aggie Band
Class of '77"? Help me out here, I have no idea. For that matter, we might
even need to specify 1977.
Next, it is obviously a Corps scholarship. And we have set our preference
for Aggie Band, and the current requirement is a 3.0gpa. Some of us who
graduated Summa Cum Later wouldn't care if that was 2.75. It has been
proposed that we do not restrict class year of award. It has also been
proposed that the recipient renews every year they meet the requirements of
BQ and 3.0.
To reiterate earlier posts, we are disallowed by IRS rules from having a
say in the exact recipient, we can only set standards. A rep from the
Commandant's Office has the final say.
So the question today is multi-part. Please answer all parts.
1. What is the name to be?
2. What's the GPA requirement?
3. Do we choose a year of first award (which?) or unrestricted?
4. Does the recipient keep the award his entire Aggie Band career, or
do we have a new recipient each year?
Thanks for you prompt replies last time, and hopefully this time, and as
before, I will take private votes if you prefer.
