I went to Switzerland and visited Interlachen in 1978. It was the first trip
we made out of Germany, and I chose it because my dad had such found memories
of visiting it during WWII. We had no reservations anywhere. I parked the car
and started using the lessons I’d learned in the Army’s “Gateway to German”
class, knocking on doors and saying “haben sie ein zimmer Frei?” Almost
immediately we were taken in by a wood carver and his wife, who after showing
us our room also showed us his woodshop and carvings, and then his wife brought
us fresh strawberries and cream. And Interlachen was indeed beautiful. They
have this beautiful covered wooden bridge that has paintings on it every few
meters as you cross the lake, The whole thing was just magical for a couple of
kids still somewhat newly married and far away from home. We also visited a
little town called Zug, right by a lake. I loved the visit, but I think
retiring there would be prohibitively expensive and a bit too remote.

I went to Switzerland for the 1st time in ‘81. I did a geography report on it
in 5th grade so it’s always intrigued me. I’ve been back several times and
loved every minute of it! Such a beautiful place.
I actually saw a hailstorm from the hotel room in Interlaken one afternoon.
Interrupted all the hang gliders.

Spildo, OMG!
#metoo!!!
Maybe we can share a chalet? I know a great spot near Gundenwald, with a
fantastic view of the lake.
I was 35 when the first time I went there. Also the first time in my life I
thought about retirement! Switzerland is like that buxom blond cheerleader in
high school that was unreachable. (angelic music in background)

Lee, I've been dreaming of retirement in Switzerland, since the first time I
saw Interlochen. I was like, Wow!
Of course we have no grandkids yet... And my wife gets a veto vote.
