Subject: [fighting_texas_aggie_band_class_of_1977] Journalism...

Rolando Santos, BQ class of 78 or 79, I don't remember... graduated with a
journalism degree. He eventually became a VP at the world class, CNN. (cough,
cough) He actually created CÑÑ in Español, later CNN Turkey and after that, CNN
Chile. I caught up with him on one of my last biz trips to South America. We
shared a steak dinner together. Amazingly he told me at the time that he still
had to fly coach, CNN didn't pay for first or biz class.  Bummer, those long
haul flights are awful in coach. Some journalists made it, I'd guess very few
at that level. Kinda like the NFL. He credited much of his success to things he
learned in Aggie Band. Ran across an old magazine in my garage last week with
his picture on the cover. He is retired.

Going off topic, sorry.

Where are the real journalists today???

My only job offer as an experienced journalist was $135/week in Gatesville.  I
followed my dream and damn near starved.  I later followed good advice and was
at least able to keep everyone fed.

My masters (in horticulture of all things) paid off if for no other reason that
it led others to think I knew useful stuff.

When I was 19 years old, I didn't have anyone to tell me, "suck your ass, you

Let's name it the "Suck your ass, you climbed out of schol-pro, scholarship."
