Is Randy on our email list? If not and you have the email address for Randy, we
should invite him to the group and make sure he is in our master list of
classmates. I do not see him on the list that Otto is keeping for us.

Some of you might remember Randy Smith (Maroon Band '77). He left A&M in our
Pisshead year and got married shortly after. Anyway, Randy and his wife Rhonda
(who are still married as far as I know) found Mike in Longview after he kind
of fell off the RADAR and kept up with him. Randy went to see Mike a number of
times while he was in a nursing home suffering from Huntington's Disease (a
horrible affliction you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy). I met Randy there
the first time he went to see Mike and we had a great visit (see attached
photo) but it was truly heartbreaking to see what this awful disease had done
to a robust, strong man. Although I did not return to see Mike, Randy went
back a good bit over the relatively short time Mike lived in teh nursing
facility. When Randy and I went to Mike's funeral, Mrs. Hagemeyer invited us
to her home after the service, where we regaled the family with memories of
Mike from his FTAB days. To thank Randy for the undying friendship and loyalty
he demonstrated for Mike during his final days Mrs. Hagemeyer presented Randy
with the Mameluke sabre Mike carried as a USMC officer. I strongly suspect it
is still displayed in a place of great honor in Randy and Rhonda's home.
Mike Hagemeyer was a good man, a good Aggie, a good Marine and a good friend.
And even though Randy Smith was a Fightin' Texas Aggie Bandsman for a short
time his "true to each other" brotherhood to a fellow Aggie truly demonstrated
the "spirit that can ne'er be told"!

Mike flunked out after spring our fish year. He went to JUCO and came back with
‘78 our Zip year. Carlson visited him regularly when he was in the nursing
home. He was a great guy.
