Re: that Empire book...
The author admits he only used written records to document his basis for the
book.
1. Imagine if you will a history of Jews in Germany written by Nazis and taken
as absolutely the truth in a country where the Nazis won. These are equivalent
to the documents he used proudly to base his book.
2. The colonizer lens through which the author writes is very narrow and
flawed. He assumes much in the wrong direction.
3. Take it as a fictionalization and not 100% correct. If you enjoyed it, I’m
glad you had a nice break from reality.
4. He immediately states in all interviews that Comanche were in survival mode
and therefore had no art or anything else that made them non-savage. That’s a
big miss in his assumption.
5. He discounted oral history that is constantly being “discovered” as being
true. (See Texas Monthly article 12/15/20 about Pease River) this is always how
I heard it. Sorry if it bothers the Aggie hearts to hear it this way.
6. Yes, it was war and it was brutal. I have at the 3xgreat ancestors that
killed each others relatives. My gggrandmother rode against Texas Rangers with
her husband. My ancestors were pretty much the reason the rangers were created.

I’ll stop there.

Dean,
You are definitely welcomed on our first post covid pandemic, professional
guided tour of Mexico City. Like I said, Jeff and Dwight can tell us all
about it.

You may see the highlights of ancient civilizations, Aztec & pre Aztec, walk
thru real archeological digs, climb the pyramids yourself (optional) and walk
through the ruins of the Aztec high temple, and see that stone where they
tore out human hearts. Plus lots of other fun, contemporary stuff. Including
my favorite restaurants.

It's a 4 day weekend, Friday thru Monday, so working folks and students only
miss 2 days...for about $1500 bucks US.

We may certainly do an all BQ buds tour! Need a minimum of 14 people.

I have also toured those indian mounds just outside of St. Louis, MO. There
is no comparison, those are just big piles of dirt.

I definitely don't buy the "noble savage" myth.  They were humans, capable of
as much evil and environmental destruction as their European (Asian, African)

I still would love to have seen the cities, villages, irrigation projects,
pyramids, and mound building that obviously was going on in pre-Columbian
America.

Dean, that "height" of Indian civilization in those years included massive
scale human sacrifice in Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital. Some estimates as
high as 80,000 per year. Beating human hearts were extracted from conquered
tribes' members. I have seen the sacrificial stones with my own eyes. So did
our buds Jeff Davis and Dwight Henneberger on our first tour of Mexico City
in 2019.

Sure the Aztecs were great engineers and architects, but also the Nazis of
the Americas in 1490s.

I never had much opinion on "Hamiliton" one way or another, but the concept
of intentionally putting minorities into historical roles that weren't

forgotten that nonsense of the cast of high school dropouts, lecture the
VPOTUS from the stage.  Shut up and sing, no one bought a ticket to hear your
mindless ranting.

If we're on the subject of our misspent youth in front of the TV, my vote is
for "12 O'clock High", where they ran the same WWII gun camera film of the
same planes being shot down every week.  Then the later, silly ones, like
"McHale's Navy", and "Hogan's Heroes", the latter where the Germans were all
played by Jews (intentionally).

I'll echo the call to read "1491", I found it fascinating.  If God allows you
to watch his old home movies when you pass, I want to see what this country
looked like before the first humans showed up, and what it looked like in
1491 at the height of Indian civilization.

And "Empire of the Summer Moon" is a pretty good read on the generational war
between Europeans and Comanches between about 1836 and the founding year of
A&M, 1876.
