If we're going to compare ditch-digging credentials, I think I win for total
miles of ditch dug. To be fair, they were irrigation ditches and I was using
one of the tools pictured below, dragging behind the tractor.
Not that I didn't use my degree in my short time with Texas A&M Ag Experiment
Station, USDA Ag Research Service, and farming on my own, but yeah, lots of
time with a shovel in my hand, or digging in the dirt with my hands, doing
welding, mechanic work, truck driving, etc.
Like the rest of you, not too proud to get my hands (face, feet, legs, etc)
dirty.
Unlike a lot of you world travelers and high muckety-mucks, not a lot of
excitement and big-time jobs. But most of my life, I basically was my own
boss, which was nice.
Of course, "being my own boss" discounts having to do what bankers,
landlords, regulatory bodies, etc. etc. told me to do.
But when the hired hand came to me and said "Boss, the little red light that
says "oil" came on, and three rounds later, the tractor quit," by golly, I
knew the buck stopped with me.
