Obituary for Michael William Hagemeyer
Captain Michael William Hagemeyer died April 1, 2009 at Whispering Pines Lodge.
He was born April 28, 195 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mike loved and attended each 
school from St. Anthony Kindergarten, Judson Elementary, Forest Park Jr. High 
and Longview High School where he was a drummer in the Lobo Band. He could not 
wait to go to Texas A & M University where he was in the corps and Aggie Band 
as a drummer once more. Upon graduation from A & M he received a commission as 
a Second Lt. in the United States Marines. He attended Officers Training school 
at Quantico, Virginia. After graduation he attended flight school at the Naval 
Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. He later was assigned to Beirut. The building 
occupied by the marines was attacked by a terrorist bombing where over 200 
marines were killed. Mike was instrumental in recovering the wounded and dead 
marines. Mike is written about in the book The Root by Eric Hammel. The picture 
of Mike is on the cover with the Marines who survived. He was given a copy of 
the book signed by the author with a personal note For Mike Hagemeyer who did 
what had to be done. Thanks and best wishes.
Later Mike was honorably discharged because of medical conditions. He was 
diagnosed with Huntington Disease.
When he entered Whispering Pines Lodge, knowing that the disease was fatal, he 
said, I have had a good and happy life. I have done everything I wanted to do. 
He spent the next 6 years as the Brave Marine that he was.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Hagemeyer.
He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Hagemeyer; his sister, Kathy Waggoner 
and her children, Jeff Waggoner, Alicia Whitehead and her husband, Sonny. His 
sister, Betsy Simon and her husband, Mike. His nieces Ashley and Laura Simon, 
Madelyn and Makenzie Whitehead.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Texas Home Health Hospice or 
to Huntington s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Ave., suite 902, New 
York, NY 10018

Rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Friday, April 3, 2009 at Rader Funeral Home 
with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM Saturday, April 4, 2009 at St. Mary s 
Catholic Church with Father Jay Lucas officiating under direction of Rader 
Funeral Home with burial following at Rosewood Park. The family will receive 
friends at the funeral home on Friday starting at 6 PM.
