Happy July 4th, everyone!

A few business items to recap:

Welcome to all of our new club officers, including our new club President, Pat
Haugse. A formal induction ceremony will be held at a later meeting.
Don't forget there is a TLI on 7/16 from 0800-1300 at Red Rocks Community
College. Everyone is welcome to attend! Club officer training will occur plus
other great workshops and presentations! There is also a TLI in Ft Collins on
7/30 and in Colorado Springs on 8/6. It's all FREE!
Keep an eye on the next few weeks for role openings.

Finally, congratulations to outgoing club President Lori High for an amazing
two terms as President! Lori's term ended on Thursday. Lori, your leadership
and fierce loyalty to our club will be missed. You have a certain leadership
style that gets the best out of people and inspires them to challenge
themselves--not a lot of people are able to do that. It was fun to see you
grow over the course of the past year and we wish you luck as Area Governor!

Great job last week to our Toastmaster, Pat Haugse. His theme of "Numbers" was
a fun one! Did you know that through the power of numerology, Pat is a "5"
(sensitive, likeable, fun, funny, down to earth, active, has a knack for
languages, loves the classics, enjoys romantic comedies)?? Who knew?!

Pat was helped out this week by Timer/Joker Kathy Barrett (way to incorporate a
lot of club members into your joke, Kath, and thanks for wishing me and Adam a
Happy 21st Birthday!), ferociously unforgiving clicker-extraordinaire and Ah
Counter, Luke Vesely, inspiring Inspirator Pat Sanchez ("What You Send Out will
Come Back to You"), quizzacle Quiz Master Art Ramirez, uber friendly Greeter
Shannon Silva, and grammatically perfect Grammarian/WOD Adam Vesely
(WOD="enumerate"). And now, I will enumerate our three speeches:

1. Bob Trucker, who is running for Adams County Commissioner, in an "Adams
County Commissioner Listening Tour." Good luck, Bob, in your quest to sweep
out the corruption, diversify the economy of Adams County, and get some new
blood in there!

2. Kate Kielsmeier, in "My Life is a Study in Contrast." Kate gave a near
flawless Ice Breaker on her very interesting life. Kate has owned her own
restaurant, worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, worked in an Alzheimer unit
as an LPN, supported three presidential candidates...what's next? I can't wait
to learn more about you Kate!

3. Pat Sanchez, in "What Do You Want?" Pat talked about the seven steps that
lead to a well formed outcome, including taking ownership, stating the benefit,
and focusing on the small things. Most importantly, enjoy the journey!

Congratulations to Kate for winning the Blue Ribbon for Best Speaker!

You know we were in store for an exciting round of Table Topics when you saw
that Earl Allen was Table Topics Master! Earl was a man of many questions that
focused on "War"...including the war on drugs, pot, coal, and emissions. I am
proud to say that yours truly, Luke Vesely, edged out some tough
competition...thank you to all my fellow hippies who also believe that we
should focus on peace, hippies, doves, and flowers--NOT war!

Congratulations to Luke for winning the White Ribbon for Best Table Topics!

Bill Farrand was our General Evaluator and was supported by Lori High
(evaluating Bob), Jeff Priestley (evaluating Kate), and Dirk Kittredge
(evaluating Pat). Some solid points were made during the evaluations,
including:

Use a strong introduction to get your audience immediately hooked on what
you're about to talk about
Intertwine title with the speech content
Use volume to Speak with Power!
Pose questions in a bold manner (ie, "What do YOU want?!") to get the audience
to really think about the question
When using lists, don't be afraid to use your fingers to show your listeners
what step you're on

Congratulations to Dirk for winning the Red Ribbon for Best Evaluator!

Great meeting everyone! Thanks again to Pat Haugse for putting together a fun
one. See ya'll next week!

Luke
