Hi Friends,

Hope this recap finds you well and comfortable this fine Saturday evening.

It was a great TLI at Red Rocks Community College this morning! Our club was
well represented with Kate, Adam, Amelia, Lori, Kathy, Feliks, Shannon and Pat
Sanchez in attendance. BTW, Feliks was voted into FRTM on
Thursday--congratulations Feliks!! We're all excited that you took this big
step to join. And not bad--attending a TLI within two days of becoming a
member !! In addition to Officer Training, some of the seminars our members
attended were Effective Persuasion, Arming Yourself for Impromptu Success,
Negotiating Strategies, and Wired for Success. Great day everyone--it was a
pleasure spending part of my weekend with you.

Kudos to Pat Sanchez for his first time as Toastmaster on Thursday! Pat's
theme was "Funny" and he had us in stitches with his "funny" props and
slideshow. I was really impressed with all the effort and organization you put
into your presentation, Pat! You've been an amazing addition to our Club.

Our Timer/Joker on Thursday evening was Luke Vesely (trust me, Steven Wright is
much funnier when HE tells the jokes!). Earl Allen lost his battle with
gravity and landed back on terra firma to be our Grammarian (WOD = lenient).
Ah Counting was provided by Kate Kielsmeier. Quiz Master duties were performed
by Lori High. And finally, Art Ramirez delivered our Inspiration; Art's
Inspiration was about his respect for the troops.

The two speakers Thursday evening deserve the highest commendation for opening
up with some very personal stories! Shannon Silva was first up and delivered
her Icebreaker. Congratulations on getting the toughest speech out of the way,
Shannon! Shannon told us about growing up with lots of siblings, the hardships
she faced at a very young age, and her relationship with her father. Shannon
has four kids of her own and is studying sociology. I enjoyed getting to know
you better Shannon.

Next up to bat was Bob Trucker in a speech called, "What is Alcoholism and How
Can You Tell If You're One?" Bob is a recovering alcoholic and wow, Bob, what
an amazing story you told! Bob gave us some brief background on alcoholism and
the devastating effect the disease can have on your life and the lives of your
friends and family. Bob told us about the first drink he had at age 12, some
of the DUIs he had, and how he's been sober since 1985. Bob even gave us a
handout that can help us figure out if we may have an alcohol problem. Thanks
for some incredible information and an incredible story Bob!

The winner of the Best Speaker Trophy was Shannon Silva! Way to go, Shannon!

One of the finest Table Topics competitors in our Club also happened to be our
Table Topics Master on Thursday (Amelia Autrey, I'm looking at you )! Amelia
flexed her creative muscle by picking a controversial club topic and turning it
into a debate topic. One person would take the pro side, the other the con
side. For example, "Should the Ah Counter use the clicker?"..."Should the
Timer announce those who do not meet the time?"..."Should speech objectives be
read before the speeches?"..."Should the meeting always end at 9PM?" Hmmmm,
great questions, Amelia! Adam Vesely won his debate, and the Best Table Topics
Ribbon, for his answer to why the meeting should not be stretched out to 9PM.
Adam argued that if we ended the meeting at a reasonable hour he could finally
take his dog Riley on an evening walk when it's not pitch dark out and that he
could actually have dinner at a decent hour. Very funny Adam!

Finally, the legendary Dirk Kittredge was our General Evaluator. Dirk's team
consisted of Adam Vesely and Kathy Barrett. Adam evaluated Bob and Kathy
evaluated Shannon. Well the tribe spoke (say, they never really speak do they?
More like "voted") and the yellow jersey goes to Kathy for Best Evaluator!
Solid evaluation, Kath!

Well another meeting down, and my countdown to my favorite day of the week
begins anew. See you all in five days...

Luke
