Hi all,

It looks like we are really close to finally getting an NFL season, and
Toastmaster Robert "here's hoping to a winning year" Trucker can't wait to get
this Broncos season going! All 14 people in the audience enjoyed your Broncos
theme, Bob. Tons of great trivia and I know any non-Broncos fans were
converted:)

A very nice mix of speeches this week. Congratulations to Adam "once shot a
record 6-three pointers during one high school basketball game!" Vesely for
completing his 10th Speech in the Competent Communicator manual! Adam's 10th
speech was called, "The Techniques of a Pistol." He spoke about the influence
that one of the greatest basketball players who ever lived, "Pistol Pete"
Maravich, has had on his life. Among the principles that Adam has taken from
Pistol Pete are having a strong work ethic, valuing creativity and innovation,
and ensuring that peace and calm in your life remain the highest priority.
Next up was Earl "I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning" Allen in a
speech called, "The View from 13,000 Feet." Earl's flying at 13,000 feet has
given him a unique perspective on the Broncos, emperors and politics. Watch
out for the slight of hand that people may pull on you! Finally, Luke "I'm not
afraid of the Wolf at the end of the path" Vesely gave a speech called, "The
Little Girl in Red." It was the Folktale of Little Red Riding Hood. Did you
know that Little Red's grandmother likes Jack Daniels? Kudos to Luke for
winning Best Speech of the Night!

Table Topics this week was spearheaded by Shannon "get your thinking cap on"
Silva. Shannon got our brains twirling by asking us common interview
questions. It was a very relevant topic, Shannon, and thanks for the excellent
practice on something we should all be more comfortable with. Congratulations
to Adam Vesely for his take on the skills he brings to the workplace and why
Shannon should hire him immediately! After that pushy...I mean tough...sell,
Adam, who wouldn't want to hire you?!

Amelia "can cook a better flambee than Julia Child" Autrey gave a lot of useful
feedback as General Evaluator. Among her wise words:

If you're not going to use a particular word in front of a 4-year old, don't
use it at Toastmasters!
If you are Toastmaster, rehearse your introductions of the speakers
Make eye contact with each other when shaking hands at the lecturn
Stand up when giving a report
During evaluations, don't find fault that's not there

Thanks Amelia! Her evaluator team consisted of Art "volunteer extraordinaire"
Ramirez, Dirk "1988 Olympic Champion on the parallel bars" Kittredge, and David
"I'm not afraid of ANY animal at the end of the path" Hassler. Way to go David
for winning Best Evaluator...and WITHOUT using notes! Trust me, it's a tough
thing to do.

As the credits roll, a last minute thank you to Pat "Timer/Joker" Sanchez,
Grammarian/WOD Kate "bafflegab-free!" Kielsmeier, Kathy "I bleed Broncos Orange
and Blue" Barrett for her Orange and Blue inspiration, and Feliks "I'm after
Alex Trebec's job" Melamed for some great Quizmaster questions.

Again, great meeting, Bob! See everyone this Thursday!

Luke Vesely
FRTM Secretary
