Good evening everyone, A fantastic meeting on Thursday! Thank you Toastmaster (and acting President) Kathy Barrett for putting together another great one; meetings like those are always the highlight of my week and before you know it, depression sets in because, just like that, they're over:( Great turnout, too--17 people! Business items at the end of the e-mail... Toastmaster Kathy's theme last week was, "Attitude is Everything." Her staff included Ah Counter Feliks, Timer/Joker Art Ramirez, Grammarian/WOD Pat Sanchez, Inspirator Kate Kielsmeier, and General Evaluator Luke Vesely. Bob Trucker was our first speaker of the night and talked about his background and why he's running for Adam's County Commissioner. David Hassler was #2 up in a speech called, "Mind Mapping--Unlock Your Mind's Potential." David showed us how to use a graphical mind map of lines, colors, and words to make learning and studying fun. Lori High was our third speaker of the night. Lori talked to us about the ins and outs of being an effetive sales person. She incorporated her sales techniques into a skit starring Kathy as a camera buyer. We were able to see first hand the importance of taking the time to get to know the buyer, being a good listener, and knowing the product. David ultimately "mapped" out the win and left the room on the shoulders of his fellow Toastmasters. Congratulations David! Adam Vesely was our Table Topics Master and our goal was to sell one of the 50 worst inventions of all time! Inventions Adam gave us included Agent Orange, subprime mortgages, the flying car, the baby cage and the parachute jacket. Way to go guest Elizabeth for your winning sell of the "oddly erotic" Hula Chair! You got me excited to dust mine off! Three veteran evaluators were bursting with constructive feedback on Thursday! Bill Farrand evaluted Bob, Amelia Autrey evaluated David, and Earl Allen evaluated Lori. Congratulations, Amelia, for setting the evaluation standard so high and winning Best Evalutor! Finally, some business agenda items: 1. Plan on our Club Picnic on either August 18th or 25th. 2. Here is the Toastmaster Leadership Institute (TLI) schedule: Denver: July 16, Red Rocks Community College 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Casper: July 23 (location and times to be announced soon) Fort Collins: July 30, (location and times to be announced soon) Colorado Springs: August 6 (location and times to be announced soon) 3. A message from Hugh Curley about the Speaker's Bureau. If you're interested, please contact Hugh directly. From: Hugh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: District 26 Speakers Bureau I have been appointed as the district Speakers Bureau Chair. I expect to make the speakers bureau a tool for growth of our members and also as a member recruiting tool for the clubs and district. Please forward to me the name and contact information of one member of your division who will work with your division members to get for them the best use of the speakers bureau. If you know of anyone who wants to speak more outside of Toastmasters, or who wants to work on leadership skills, that person may be a good candidate. It is my goal to: 1) Add people who want to broaden their speaking audience 2) To help current and new members raise their speaking skills and 3) To advertise heavily to service organizations and schools so they know that the speakers bureau is the place to get good speakers. Thank you, Hugh Curley Speakers Bureau Chair Thank you again Kathy for organizing this week's meeting, and thank you ALL for making Thursday nights my favorite night of the week! It's a pleasure being in your presence every Thursday evening. See you in 4 days! Luke
