Hello Toastmasters,

I hope your weekend was as good as mine. First of all, congratulations to our
new Club President, Pat Haugse, who was sworn in on Thursday by Lori High.
Also, we are looking for participants in the upcoming Humorous/Evaluation
speech contest. Stay tuned for more information!

I was the Toastmaster this week and enjoyed talking all about "Magnificent
Colorado." As evidenced by the introductions--I had everyone tell the club
what they love most about Colorado--it is a privilege to live here. The sports
teams, microbrews, skiing, Boulder, mountains, a great place to raise a family,
and the gorgeous weather...we have it all!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the meeting a "red, white, blue and gold"
success: Joker/Time Earl Allen, Grammarian/WOD David Hassler
(WOD--"resplendent"), Ah Counter Dirk Kittredge, and Inspirator Feliks Melamed.
Shannon Silva was the first-ever "Ha Counter" for the club.

What an entertaining group of speeches this week! Kathy Barrett started us off
with "One Jackson Square." Kathy used Thursday as a practice session for a
presentation she is giving tomorrow in front of a bunch of architects. Her
speech was all about a new highrise being built in Greenwich Village that will
feature condos, luxury apartments, and penthouse suites. Now that's
living...You had to see the pictures--those suites are mind boggling! Good
luck tomorrow, Kathy!!

The second speaker of the night was Kate Kielsmeier in "The Brain and Virtue."
Kate used to be a nurse in Alzheimer's units in Denver and Wheat Ridge. She
spoke about her experiences working in those units, and about the interesting
people she helped, including a Lulu the southern belle, a judge and the
fantastic Ms Daisy. In the end, Kate said, it is virtue--regardless of your
state of mind--that will get you through life. Kindness always shines through.

Finally, Amelia Autrey made "Headline News" with her speech--a speech that
featured live guitar playing to the tune of original lyrics! Amelia played the
well known music of such artists as John Lennon and Linda Ronstadt, all with a
modern twist on the lyrics. Incredible job tying in classic hits with modern
issues, Amelia. That was not an easy speech to give! This was a great example
of someone challenging herself with a technically demanding speech. Also,
with the completion of this speech, Amelia has earned the distinction of
Advanced Communicator Bronze!! Way to go Amelia!

Congratulations to Kate Kielsmeier for winning Best Speech!

Art Ramirez continued the "Colorado" theme as Table Topics Master. All of his
questions focused on some Colorado related issue. Adam Vesely ended up winning
Table Topics this week with his hilarious attempt to get outsiders to move back
to their native home states. The high rises are much more beautiful, the bugs
less nasty, and the highways less crowded in the states from where you hail!
Nice try Adam:)

Lori High and her evaluation team of Bob Trucker, Adam Vesely, and Pat Sanchez
rounded out the meeting. I appreciate everyone stepping up to fill the
evaluation roles. Adam Vesely took home a second ribbon for Best Evaluator for
his evaluation of Kate Kielsmeier. Congratulations again Adam!

From the end of meeting reports, there were a few people to recognize. Ah
Counter Dirk Kittredge recognized Earl Allen and Amelia Autrey for NO
ums/ahs/double clutches/run on sentences. And Ha Counter Shannon Silva
recognized Adam Vesely, Amelia Autrey, and Luke Vesely for garnering the most
laughs of the night.

Have a great week everyone!

Luke
