Hello All,

Jeff was Toastmaster and the theme was Mother's Day.

Roles

   - Ray: Greeter and Timer/Joker - keeping the genie in a lamp trend
   rolling
   - Colette: Ah-Counter and Quizmaster
   - Luis: Gesture Master
   - Dirk: Grammarian/WOD – inherit
   - Sparky: Inspiration

Business

   - Luis once again enjoyed filling in as El Presidente and so it was
   suggested he run, because...
   - Elections are June 6. Nominate yourself or someone else. Anyone in a
   current role, except the president, is eligible for another term if they so
   desire. "Vote for me" speeches will only be given if there are multiple
   people running for a single role.
   - Dirk summarized his evaluation competition. He is proud to be one of
   eight competing out of an estimated 3,500 members in the district. There
   was one disqualification, which Dirk believes was him by a single second.
   - August 21–24 is the International Toastmaster Convention. Colette is
   running the president committee for the event. If you want to be a
   committee chair, you can get a free ticket to the conference (estimated at
   $400). Ask Colette for details.
   - Isaac Ramirez was inducted as a new member. Whoohoo! Welcome, Isaac.
   We are excited to have you join us.

Mother's Day Facts

   - Anna Jarvis, who never married or had children, founded Mother's Day.
   - In 1908, she worked with John Wanamaker, a businessman to make it
   official (I think she just wanted to work with someone with such a great
   name).
   - President Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday in 1914.
   - Anna Jarvis later petitioned to have Mother's Day abolished because it
   became too commercialized.
   - Everyone knows the best mother is "mine" so Jeff gave us some of the
   worst mothers in history, which wasn't Clara Hitler.

The first speaker was me, explaining my communication style in *Third
Time's a Charm*. Apparently, whenever I take a Toastmasters assessment
three styles basically tie. My evaluator was Pattie who pointed out some
nervous habits and gave some great suggestions.

Zach was our second speaker, who reminded us why *Green Chilis* are one of
the greatest, most versatile foods (making me, and probably everyone, wish
they had some). His evaluator was Alan who noted the incredible jump in
improvement in a single speech – great job Zach – and had some thoughts to
keep the improvement going.

Table Topics Master was Robin who asked everyone Mother related questions.
Inherit was required.
Dirk: Are mothering skills transferable to the corporate world?
Sparky: Is one day a year enough to recognize our mothers?
Luis: What the heck do you buy at a Mom and Pop store?
Katelynn: Is it better to be a mother or a grandmother?
Pattie: If you could not have your mother, who would you choose to be your
mother?
Ray: Have MADD mother's gone too far?
Alan: Do stepmothers get a bad rep because of Cinderella?
Isaac: MOM is an acronym for Matriarch Of Mine (made up by Robin). What
does DAD stand for?
Colette: Should DOL be able to require lactating rooms?

General Evaluator was Katelynn who had some astute comments for roles and
the whole meeting.

Winners...
Table Topics: Colette, whose best gesture of the night had everyone
laughing.
Evaluator: Alan, his use of the lectern made quite an impression.
Speaker: Me.
