It was great to witness the introduction of past board members. The leadership
of this organization is amazing. I wanted to share a little of what was shared
as the convention convened!
International President’s Report: Mike Storkey, DTM:
Visited Districts all over the globe. The one thing that is the same, the
world over, is our membership. It is the membership of Toastmasters that makes
the organization.
One thing he recognized about a club in Deli, India. This club has split 6 or
7 times. Each time they get to around 60 members, which doesn’t seem to take
them much time, they decide to form a new club. Where they meet is not fancy
or salubrious area, meeting a sparse room with a trestle table and chairs, but
it is packed with members that bring a vitality to understand their program.
Every day they meet they have 10 guests or more. And of those 10 guests, at
least 4 or 5 join at
the first meeting.
Mike believes that in the established markets, it is a lot easier for us to go,
because we all speak the English language. But in the emerging markets, they
don’t speak the basic language, they learn in their second language. They
really
see the value of the skills learned in Toastmasters; skills that they can take
outside of Toastmasters to develop their career, develop their communities and
better serve their families. Someone asked Mike what can we learn from the
established Districts.
Maybe the question should be, “What can we learn from the emerging districts.”
Toastmasters is one of the few volunteer organizations that is still growing.
We must have something that new people want, and we must be something right!
Wonderful opening speech! What a quality live-stream event!
See you tomorrow! It’s going to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!
Sincerely,
Shirley K. Eaves
