Sorry we couldn't be there. Jen was delivering her first keynote speech, to
the Live Strong group at Da Vinci Institute.
I recorded much of it, until the Samsung Android camera ceased recording
without warning at the 3.99 GB mark. (There was plenty more storage...if
anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know.) And, if anyone would
like to see the talk, I can give you a link.

Joined toastmasters to do something about it. Ice Breaker speech re
written five times. Was so nervous he did not sleep. Tired from three
nights of no sleep, he did not see the bus that hit him. Woke up in an
auditorium giving his speech. After the speech he was excited. "I never
thought heaven was so great, when does the the audience get here?" "This
is not heaven" Your audience is your worse enemy.

Speaker #1. Dirk Kittredge. Ice Breaker - Learning to speak before an
audience.
A family of Toastmasters. 1950 Gavel from my grandfather. Father joined
toastmasters in 1950. Got his father into it. Father got his brother
involved and introduced daughter. 25 years ago, I joined toastmasters.
Part of nine different clubs. Received distinguished toastmasters award.
Toastmasters is a family thing. Thank you for allowing me to be a better
person.
Speaker #2. Alan Wong. Impromptu speech. Anesthetics and Antibiotics.
Antibiotics is like adding more soldiers to your army's defense system with
more machine guns and shot guns. Anesthetics numbs the area like a clamp
over a garden hose until the clamp is later released.

#1. Kathy Barrett. When you think of home, what comes to mind? A:
Denver mountains, blue skies. Married in the 90's, lived in St Louis for
11 years. Moved back to Denver in 2001. Denver is definitely home.
#2. Adam Vesely. If you lost everything tomorrow, who's arm would you
run into? A: My wife, great listener but she sometimes yells at me for
being a sissy man. Luke, my twin brother but he's a big bully.
Clandestine about this choice. I'd pick my puppy Riley.
#3. Jason Marine (guest). If my entire life was a movie, what title best
fits? A: Back to the future and change the past forty years. I would not
change coming to toastmasters.
#4. Dirk Kittredge: Who are you really? Deep down inside, who are
you? A: I am a dog. What better life than a four legged fury friend.
#5. Jarrod Hannah: Be a martyr and risk reputation in front of peers or
be pragmatic and do nothing? A: Divine being, reach state of clarity and
perfection. What kind of person if we do nothing?
#6. Bill Farrand: What would happen if you never wasted another minute
of your life? A: Work, work, work. Dog's out to play. Honey here is
important too. Doing what I'm doing now. These questions are not
clandestine. They're openly silly.
#7. Alan Wong: What are things that stand between you and complete
happiness? A: HIPPA, dental insurance, OSHA, and evil people. I'm
blessed and I'm really so happy.
#8. Robin McIntosh: Standing at gates heaven, why should I let you in?
How do you reply? A: God, I know you know Dirk and his life is like a
dog. Mine is looking out the window with no one to feed me. I just want
to go inside, feed me and love me. Just take care of me.
#9. Luis Estrada: When did you not speak up when you know you should
have? A: At table topics. Asking boss for a raise. Teaching my daughter
when she did something wrong. Driving home tonight and telling myself I
should have answered that.
#10. Lori High: If you spend a day watching movies when you are suppose
to be at work. Day well spent or wasted? A: Self employed. Movies good
for soul. Keep busy, granddaughter helps with list. She sometimes give me
a note "Hi Grandma". She even helps cross things off my list.
#11. Jeff Stoll: Would you rather have ten years of excellent health or
thirty years of average health? A: I'm an average person. I'd go for
longevity and pace myself. Enjoy myself in average ways.
#12. Luke Vesely: Would you break the law to save a loved one? A:
Hell yes. Who would not do that? Maybe some here would not save Robin's
life. Yes, I would break the law to save a loved one.

Demonstrate great stage presence. Great opening with gavel. Learned
about family of toastmasters. Impressed with nine different clubs and 25
years. Epitomize what toastmasters stands for. Work on planting feet.
Should not wear name tag. Met objectives, captured audience. Great mentor
to club.
#2 Evaluator: Robin McIntosh on Alan
Dirk is an astounding person. How great Alan Wong is. Picked the most
challenging topic for "me" He usually has the dance and the spider
fingers. Used a lot of analogy. Layman's terms, his world to our world.
Ah-Counter: Luke Vesely. Colored pie chart. And's, so's, uh's, um's
double clultches.
Grammarian: Adam Vesely. Dirk - four legged fury friend. Alan - word
selections on Penicillin and machine guns. Kathy - describing St. Louis.
GE: Luis Estrada - Meeting started on time, The gavel was very loud.
Evaluations slips on the table were very neat and organized. Table Topics
- I'm always sweating on the great questions. Learn by practicing. As GE,
nobody can judge me. Alan Wong was numb from dental work done earlier in
the day. During his speech, he was speaking from experience. Good WOD.
Evaluator Lori High - Good flow, focus on family. Praise grandfather and
father. Incorporate humor. Good suggestion on badge and moving around.
Evaluator Robin McIntosh - Confused with Dirk and Alan. Analogy. Stay
with the speaker. Recognized how he improved.

There were twelve members and two guests. Bill Farrand was as
entertaining as always. Table Topics questions were excellent and well
selected by Phil Poplawski. Only two speakers but it gave time for more
table topics. Congratulations to all the ribbon winners.
Dirk had mentioned to me that I still moved with my feet and hands
and they moved with no purpose and this was distracting. I have been
evaluated on this many many times before. and I've done nothing to correct
this. He showed a video of me when I did my speech. During table topics,
Dirk challenged everyone to play a game. No feet movement and hands to
your side. Everyone played along. Bill played but he crossed his hands.
Give him credit, the hands stayed crossed the entire time. And the most
natural looking person that held their hands to their side was Lori. We
are told things and we sometimes don't listen. And we don't correct
ourselves because we're unaware of it. BUT when we are shown it on video,
we go Ah Ha. I see it. And then to have everyone do table topics and play
along, not only do I see it, I understand it. And when I was up there
doing table topics with my hands to my side, I finally "get it" It's going
to need practice, but I now have awareness of what I need to do. We attend
seminars and classes and we can only hope to walk away learning something.
This was the one toastmasters meeting I felt I walked away learning
something that will last a life time. Thank you Dirk and to everyone that
participated. It was another meeting where you should've been there.
