*Thursday Toastmaster’s Meeting Recap* The theme of Thursday’s Toastmaster meeting was Summer Movies. Luke Vessley was the Toastmaster. Throughout the meeting Luke shared fun movie trivia questions, he asked what summer movies were the favorites of meeting attendees, he provided a list of the all time summer flops and mentioned some of the upcoming movies at Red Rocks Film on the Rocks series. The Summer Movies topic was carried throughout the meeting with the word of the day which was trailer and with Cody Markham’s speech number 3 about going to the movies. Amelia Autrey provided the educational moment: If you are a speaker be ready. Be on the sidelines not in the back of the room when you are being introduced. Hurry up to the podium, be excited, be prepared and be ready to begin once the introduction is complete The Riveting Review was given by Lisa Marty about the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keensburg, Colorado. *Speeches* Collette Smith gave her Ice Breaker speech entitled Risk = Growth A Piece of My Life. She described some of the risks she has taken throughout her life such as with work and meeting her husband. Bev Wheeler’s speech number 2 which was entitled How It Really Was in My Childhood was enjoyable and entertaining as she described growing up in South Sioux Falls with 14 siblings. She talked about the difficulties but also related the many good memories. Cody Markham gave his speech number 3, Going to the Movies. He provided everyone with tips on going to the movies, including dinner movies, midnight movies and he encouraged us all to go enjoy movies. As Educational VP, Amelia Autrey gave a 10-15 minute speech from the Better Speaker Skills Series titled Beginning your Speech. Amelia has achieved her Bronze Advanced Communicator designation and with this speech is working toward her Silver designation. Tips given by Amelia for opening techniques included capturing attention, arousing curiosity, ask a rhetorical question, humor, quotes and many more wonderful ideas. *Table Topics* As always Table Topics was entertaining. Kathy Barrett’s questions related to the evenings topic of Summer Movies. The challenging questions were about some famous summer movies including Jaws, Die Hard, Jurassic Park, Ghost, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Top Gun and Airplane. *Evaluators* The evaluators Earl Allen, Elizabeth Vidmar, Mark DeMay and Feliks Melamed provided valuable comments to each speaker. *Awards* The meeting ended with award presentations to: Table Topics Adams Vessley for his Jurassic Park Ride Evaluator - Mark DeMay for his evaluation of Cody Speaker - Collette Smith for her Ice Breaker Speech Kathy Barrett’s Grammarian report included thoughts on word use throughout the meeting including outstanding work by several speakers. Ah Counter Elizabeth Vidmar listed the various Ahs by each speaker *Business Meeting * President Kathy Barrett announced the current board: President – Amelia Autrey VP Education – Lori High VP Membership – Dirk Kittredge VP Public Relations – Bev Wheeler Secretary – Beth Chacon Treasurer – Feliks Melamed Sergeant at Arms – Still Open Kathy expressed the enjoyment and fulfillment she received being the President and thanked everyone for the opportunity. She will begin next week’s meeting as President and perform the induction of the new officers. Dirk Kittredge informed the group that once again this year, Front Range Toastmasters received a Distinguished Club Program Ribbon. The award recognizes high-performing clubs who promote quality, structure and guidance. The ribbon will be on the banner with the group’s other recognition ribbons so check it out. The meeting ended right at 9:00 p.m.
