New description:
This laptop runs hrev46890 flawlessly.
hrev46950 (ISO on CD-RW) boots, sits for a lonnggg time on the HD icon,
then stalls on the final icon.
Spent an hour trying the various safe boot options, no luck.
Sorry, won't be able to do a binary search, I'm having severe bandwidth
problems on this side. Just putting this here for reference purposes.

I have an inspiron 1100 I can probably test with (if I can locate it).
Can you get me a listdev and syslog output to compare the hardware specs?
